Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Diesel Fitter to join our team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and plant to ensure optimal performance and safety. Your expertise will help keep our fleet and machinery operating smoothly, supporting our commitment to efficiency and reliability. Duties
- Perform routine inspections such as 6-weekly and preventative maintenance on diesel engines and related equipment such as excavators, forklifts, rollers and other heavy machinery
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using schematics, technical manuals, and diagnostic tools
- Conduct repairs including welding, fabrication, soldering, and assembly of components as needed
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and electrical testing devices to complete repairs accurately
- Read and interpret schematics and technical diagrams to troubleshoot complex issues effectively
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs performed, and parts used for compliance and reporting purposes
- Assist with equipment upgrades, modifications, and fabrication projects to improve operational efficiency
Qualifications
- Proven experience in mechanical repair with strong knowledge of diesel engines and heavy machinery maintenance
- Skilled in fabrication, welding, soldering, electrical work, and reading schematics
- Familiarity with electrical systems and troubleshooting electrical issues on diesel-powered equipment
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, forklifts, and excavators safely and efficiently
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform heavy lifting safely when required
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail during inspections and repairs
- Customer service orientation with the ability to communicate effectively within a team environment
