The scope of the role encompasses software development of the Java / Linux RESTful system UI for a range of enterprise Network Attached Storage (NAS) products.
Some C development in addition to the above is required. For candidates without strong C experience this will be managed as a personal development goal.
This vacancy lies within our R&D services team based in Bristol working on-site at Hewlett-Packard.
The work entails development of HP StorageWorks D2D Backup Systems with HP StoreOnce deduplication provide disk-based data protection for data centres and remote offices. The D2D R&D team in Bristol has responsibility both for delivering products and for providing technology, such as deduplication, to other parts of HP. This is a very high growth area for HP.
The successful candidate will join a team responsible for the R&D of these products.
The job will include the following responsibilities:
- Taking a significant technical leadership role in the development of the RESTful UI for the product using Java.
- Representation of the RESTful UI development with the Agile SDLC
- Specifying future UI requirements and development objectives.
- Interfacing with the QA/test engineers to help test plans for new Java UI code being developed
This role is available to candidates with 2+ years’ experience.
New or recent graduates with significant work experience and very high technical knowledge will also be considered for the role.
The following qualifications are required (or equivalent experience):
Masters or Bachelors degree in either an Electronic Engineering or Computer Science discipline (or closely related)
Excellent knowledge and skills and a minimum of 2 years’ commercial experience is required in the following:
- Java programming
- RESTful UI
- Programming on Linux O/S
Excellent skills are required in:
- Problem solving
- Project and time management
- Team working and communication
- Motivation and self-driven working.
- C system programming
- Perl programming for QA/test
- Scripting programming languages
- PC workstation and server hardware
- Continuous integration/building of software developed under an agile SDLC
- Installation of software (operating systems and applications)

A self-starting, motivated, ambitious individual with a strong desire and ability to learn quickly is required for this role.
