AIM AND PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The purpose of the role is to deliver high quality teaching and learning by providing students with a planned learning experience and to complete all the necessary administrative duties associated with the teaching role.

1. Planning and preparation - plan and prepare, in accordance with the requirements of the curriculum, by:
-
producing and maintaining schemes of work and outlines of work
-
preparing lesson plans with clear aims
-
preparing appropriate resources
2.Delivery - deliver effective programmes of learning, through efficient classroom management, including:
-
promotion of learning in a stimulating context.
-
ensuring all classroom activities are conducted in a safe manner with appropriate use of safety equipment/clothing.
-
established strategies for managing lateness.
-
use of information Learning Technology (ILT) where appropriate.
-
consulting and liaising with other members of the course team to ensure effective delivery of the agreed subject area.
3.Quality - Work in accordance with the requirements of the College and examining bodies, implementing quality assurance requirements by:
- Participating in the College Lesson Observation Scheme.
-
Contributing to the SAR and other quality related activities.
-
Assisting with the production of course evaluation and review the induction sessions.
- Attending at least three course team meetings per annum.
-
Fully participating in course team activities.
4.Monitoring - undertake monitoring and assessment of students’ and clients’ progress through:
-
maintaining up-to-date and accurate records in line with college procedures and appropriate standards.
5. Assessment and verification - marking students’ work in timely manner and providing feedback to learners, including:
-
Advising students on targets, progress and individual learning plans.
- Operating to agreed marking schemes
-
Setting and assessing work of the students in relation to curriculum criteria and providing opportunities for student feedback.
-
Where necessary, acting as an assessor.
-
If appropriate, acting as an internal verifier.
6. Associated administrative duties- complete and maintain accurate and effective systems of administration, including:
-
ensuring that students are enrolled
-
maintaining accurate and up to date registers
-
making appropriate referrals to college services
-
identifying and reporting nonattendances
-
referring matters to the CRQ Leader or CRQ Manager
-
registering students for external awards, if appropriate, under the supervision of the CRQ Leader or CRQ Manager
-
ensuring that all work is marked and appropriate feedback given within set times
7.Curriculum and other development- undertake continuous professional development in accordance with professional development policy, including:
- Undertaking subject specific updating and development in order to be able to teach in the curriculum area
-
Undertaking other development in liaison with the CRQ Leader or CRQ Manager
-
Undertaking curriculum updating in line with awarding body requirements
-
Providing a general contribution to the curriculum development process
-
Attending and participating in course team, programme area and College meetings as required.
-
Attending conferences, courses and meetings to update expertise and knowledge.
8. Student support - provide support for students, to ensure the best possible satisfaction, attendance and achievement levels, including:
-
Acting as a personal tutor for a group of students
-
Supporting students in Functional skills (inexperienced staff will be given training and support)
- Referring students to the Student Welfare or Career Guidance Team as appropriate.
-
Liaising with Personal Tutors or other staff on student issues, which may need further investigation/action.
9.Health and Safety- maintain safe working practices at all times and ensure that statutory requirements are met, including:
-
Taking responsibility for the safe conduct of work within your own work area, including the completion of risk assessments as and when necessary.
10.Safeguarding - undertake the duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
11. Other general duties- you will be expected to:
-
Always carry out your duties and responsibilities in compliance with college policies, including the College Equal Opportunities, No Smoking and Quality Management Policies.

To undertake such other duties, commensurate with the post, which the College management may reasonably and occasionally require – this may include evening and Saturday working and covering for absent colleagues as and when appropriate.

This is current at the date shown below and is a guide to the work you will be required to undertake. In consultation with the post holder, it may be changed from time to time by the College to meet changing circumstances.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE – Academic staff
The appointment is subject to the Conditions of Service for Academic Staff. The work pattern of a Lecturer is not necessarily linked to the traditional academic year.

SALARY
The salary for this post is up to £41,413 per annum. Starting salary will be dependent upon experience and qualifications. Once you have successfully passed your probationary period, your salary will increase within the salary band on an annual incremental basis, until you reach the top of the salary scale. Increments are in August.
TEACHING QUALIFICATION
Applicants are required to hold an appropriate teaching qualification or be willing to undertake and gain the Certificate in Education and Training within 2 years of their appointment. Successful applicants will be required to attend the course on-site as the College delivers the course in-house.
Please note – whilst obtaining a teaching qualification is a contractual requirement, the College reviews its CPD budget on an annual basis regarding availability of funds and cannot therefore guarantee that newly appointed staff will receive either part or full funding for the course fees. However, student loan facilities are available.
MATHS AND ENGLISH
All staff are required to have a minimum level 2 qualification in both English and Maths. If you are not already in receipt of one or both qualifications, you will be expected to obtain it (them) during your employment at the College.
SAFEGUARDING
The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
All newly appointed staff will be required to undertake safeguarding training following their appointment.
Heart of Worcestershire College adheres to the Department of Education’s guidance on ‘Keeping children safe in Education’. As part of your induction, you will be required to read and understand part 1 of this document.
VALIDATION OF QUALIFICATIONS
The College will undertake qualification validation by writing to the appropriate educational institute. Only those qualifications which are essential for the post will be followed up.
HOURS OF WORK
The hours of work will be based 37 hours per week.
ANNUAL LEAVE
The post carries 37 annual leave days with an additional eight public bank holidays plus a further five concessionary days as ‘leave to be taken at the principal’s discretion’. Annual leave will be pro rata if part time.
Please note that only in exceptional circumstances, with your director’s permission, will staff be able to take more than 3 consecutive weeks of leave in any leave year.
PENSION SCHEME
The College operates an occupational pension scheme, namely the ‘Teachers Pensions’.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD
All newly appointed teaching staff must serve a 9-month probationary period. During the probationary period you will have to attend the corporate staff induction day, a Teaching & Learning Induction and additional mandatory courses on: Prevent, Equality & Diversity session, GDPR, Safeguarding Training session and Health & safety training session. Failure to attend these will prevent you from successfully completing your probation.

All candidates must have 2 satisfactory references.
LOCATION
The successful applicant will be based at our Bromsgrove and Worcester Campuses but may be required to work at other locations from time to time.

TRAINING
All successful applicants will be required to undertake all mandatory training and update sessions and any appropriate training and development as required, including Health and Safety.
