Senior Innovations Engineer
Help shape the future of automation, robotics and advanced engineering.
About the role
We are looking for a Senior Innovations Engineer to lead the development of practical, creative and cutting-edge engineering solutions. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys turning ideas into working prototypes, automating manual processes and exploring new technologies such as robotics, machine vision and laser-based systems.
You will work across concept development, rapid prototyping, build, testing and refinement, helping bring new designs from early mock-up through to robust engineering solutions.
Key responsibilities
-
Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve safety, quality, speed and consistency.
-
Develop new cutting-edge designs from initial concept through to prototype and trial.
-
Apply robotics, machine vision, lasers and other emerging technologies to solve real engineering challenges.
-
Create quick mock-ups and proof-of-concept prototypes to test ideas rapidly and learn fast.
-
Produce CAD models, drawings and layouts to support design, build and communication.
-
Assemble, wire and test your own designs, taking ownership of practical build and validation activities.
-
Design, integrate and troubleshoot pneumatic systems as part of automated equipment and prototype builds.
-
Work closely with technical teams to understand problems and deliver workable solutions.
-
Review test results, gather feedback and iterate designs to improve reliability, usability and performance.
-
Support the introduction of new equipment, processes and technologies into operational environments.
What we are looking for
-
Strong practical engineering ability with a passion for innovation, experimentation and problem solving.
-
Experience using CAD to develop concepts, layouts, parts or assemblies.
-
Basic programming capability, or the confidence to develop programming skills for automation, controls, data capture or prototype testing.
-
Working knowledge of pneumatic systems, including common components, safe assembly and basic fault finding.
-
An interest in robotics, machine vision, lasers, automation or advanced manufacturing technologies.
-
Ability to build, wire, test and troubleshoot prototypes or engineering systems.
-
A proactive mindset, with the confidence to try new ideas, learn quickly and adapt when things do not work first time.
-
Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical ideas clearly to both engineering and non-engineering colleagues.
-
A willingness to learn new technologies, tools and methods as the role evolves.
Why join us?
This is an opportunity to work at the front end of engineering innovation, where your ideas can quickly become real-world solutions. You will have the freedom to explore new technologies, create rapid prototypes and make a visible impact on how processes are designed, improved and automated.
