We are looking for an experienced team member with an NVQ2 in Pharmacy Services and knowledge of pharmacy service procedures. The successful candidate will have experience of working in a dispensary and a broad knowledge of General Practice.
You must be prepared and able to travel to all our dispensaries based in Uffculme, Bradninch, and Sampford Peverell.
You will be serving our community and interacting with customers on a day to day basis.
You will establish relationships with all customers - not only patients as well as other team members including our healthcare team.
Rate of pay: £12.95 ph (pay rise pending)
Core responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Dispenser. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
Individual Tasks
a. Dispense medicines accurately in line with prescriptions, legislation, and practice protocols
b. Collect prescription charges from patients as appropriate and ensure the reverse of prescriptions are signed correctly
c. Check repeats against discharge summary for blister pack issues
d. Ensure medicines are labelled, packaged and supplied safely
e. Provide patients with information and advice on prescribed medicines
f. Handle patient queries in a professional and timely manner
g. Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold professional standards at all times
h. The printing, processing and preparation of repeat prescription requests
i. Check prescriptions for accuracy and highlight discrepancies or potential issues to prescribers
j. Record all dispensing activity accurately on the practice clinical system
k. Ensure compliance with Controlled Drugs regulations and maintain accurate records
l. Order, receive and store pharmaceutical stock safely in accordance with regulations
m. Monitor stock levels, expiry dates and ensure efficient stock rotation to minimise waste.
n. Maintain accurate records of deliveries, invoices and controlled drugs registers
o. Liaise with suppliers to resolve stock issues promptly
p. Work with GPs, nurses and administrative staff to support safe prescribing and dispensing
q. Communicate effectively with patients, carers and colleagues
r. Participate in team meetings and contribute to service improvements
s. Participate in audits
t. Participate in Drug recalls
u. Ensure infection control and safe working practices are followed at all times, including the cleaning of dispensary and equipment
v. Undertake training and continuous professional development as required
w. Supervise less experienced staff members and trainees as required
x. Monitor and record fridge & room temperatures and data logger
y. To process blister pack prescriptions
z. Blister pack administration, monitoring and reporting
aa. Ensuring a robust delivery service from suppliers to the dispensaries
bb. Checking group tasks and actioning
cc. To be responsible for the placing, receiving, and distributing of orders required by our Nursing and Community Team
dd. To assist the placing, receiving and distributing of orders required by our internal nursing team.
ee. To assist with the dispensing task box, ensuring that all tasks received are actioned
ff. To undertake any reasonable task within the competency of the postholder
Applicants should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work to deadlines. IT and great customer service skills are a must, as is a sense of humour and happy demeanour.
Knowledge of SystmOne would be beneficial. Future progression will always be considered.
The successful candidate should be flexible and willing to provide cover for colleagues during periods of annual leave and sickness absence, subject to the needs of the service.
