Temporary to Permanent Process Worker

Formica Group is the world’s largest manufacturer of High Pressure Laminate (HPL), our international network of design, manufacturing, distribution and sales operations maintains the recognition of Formica® as a global brand.

The heritage and brand reputation of the Formica Group of companies has been founded on quality, service and innovative product lines. We have developed an unrivalled expertise that ensures products meet the needs of their applications — as well as market demands.

Formica North Shields factory was opened in 1945 and employs approximately 100 production and warehouse staff plus a further 50 people in support functions. The factory produces up to 50,000 sheets of High Pressure Laminate per week across the static and continuous presses.

North Shields factory recently completed a large-scale investment program making it one of the most modern and efficient High Pressure Laminate facilities in the World. We are the only High Pressure Laminate factory in the UK.

We are now seeking the next generation of factory and warehouse personnel to join our team in North Shields.

Working within a heavy, industrial manufacturing plant the successful candidates will work as part of a team to produce high pressure laminate products within specified safety, quality & hygiene standards with an overall positive attitude towards work.

Candidates must possess a good work ethic and be flexible with a ‘can do’ approach, they must also be:

· Safety and Quality focussed

· Computer literate and able to interface with the computer based production reporting system

· Willing to work shifts – the factory works on a 3-shift rotating working pattern, 07:00 – 15:00, 15:00 – 23:00, 23:00 – 07:00. (A 4-shift 24/7 shift operation is also worked in some parts of the factory) (Hourly rates staed are inclusive of 3-shift allowance)

· Good communication skills, written and verbal

· Previous manufacturing experience and working to targets and SOPs

· Knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques such as performance measures and 5S and experience of warehouse management systems would be an advantage

· Fork truck experience is desirable but not essential however all candidates should be prepared to complete an FLT training course if required

A good level of literacy & numeracy, GCSE passes in English and Mathematics as a minimum.

Positive, flexible and proactive attitude towards work
A good awareness and attitude towards Health & Safety and working safely
A good awareness and attitude towards product Quality and high standards
Ability and desire to identify improvements or make suggestions
Ability and desire to solve practical problems and deal with situations where only limited procedures exist
Proven track record in a forward-thinking manufacturing environment or the equivalent combination of education and experience
Understanding of modern manufacturing methods and 5S
Understanding of production costs including waste, downtime, scrap and re-work
Good understanding of the impact of cost of poor quality and customer deliverables
Passion to produce our product to the highest standards possible
The ability to understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures
Manual dexterity and operating process machinery is key in this role
Willingness to learn and adapt through flexibility and job rotation
Overall positive attitude

Leadership potential – we are also looking for the Team Leaders and Production Managers of the future and have a strong record of internal promotion
