About the role
Environmental Health and Licensing cover a wide range of services including food safety, environmental protection, alcohol licensing and street trading just to name a few. Due to the range of services and customers we are a busy and dynamic team that relies on team work to support one another while maintaining a high level of customer service. The ability to work in a demanding customer service environment and work accurately is paramount, ideally you will have knowledge about Environmental Health and licensing issues, but this is not essential as full training is given and continuous personal development is available. You should have a desire to learn and be keen to join a team where you work can have a direct impact on the city around you.
Key responsibilities
- Provide specialist technical advice and customer support to residents, businesses and service users on Licensing, Food Safety, Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Animal Control and related regulatory matters.
- Process and administer statutory applications by receiving, validating and assessing applications, maintaining records, and issuing licences, permits, registrations and consents in accordance with legislation and statutory deadlines.
- Manage licensing casework and committee processes, including preparing reports, supporting licensing hearings and panels, coordinating representations, reviews and appeals, and ensuring legal compliance throughout.
- Maintain accurate records and administrative systems, developing and managing electronic and manual filing systems, correspondence, data management processes and financial transactions in line with Council procedures.
- Support regulatory enforcement and public protection activities, including assisting with PACE interviews, investigating infectious disease and RIDDOR notifications, and liaising with businesses, statutory agencies and partner organisations.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.

Team and service working arrangements are designed to support both employee work life balance and team collaboration. These would be part of your individual working arrangements alongside any personal preference agreed with your manager in advance of joining. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team and travel to and from your contractual location would be at your own expense.
