XFIT Gyms York is looking for a friendly, reliable and proactive Front of House / Gym Assistant to join our growing team.
Based in the centre of Acomb, XFIT is a premium, members-only gym built around quality, community and a better training experience. We’re different to many commercial gyms because our membership is capped, meaning the gym is never overcrowded and our members feel known, supported and valued.
This role is perfect for someone who loves people, takes pride in high standards, and enjoys being part of a positive, community-focused environment.
About the role
As part of our Front of House team, you’ll play a huge part in the day-to-day experience of our members.
This isn’t just a “sit behind the desk” role. We want someone who will help us make every member feel welcome from the moment they walk through the door.
You’ll be greeting members by name, asking about their day, chatting about their training session, remembering conversations from previous visits, and helping create the friendly, personal atmosphere that makes XFIT special.
You’ll also be responsible for helping keep the gym clean, tidy, organised and running smoothly throughout your shift.

Main responsibilities
Your role will include:
- Welcoming members into the gym in a friendly, confident and personal way
- Getting to know our members and helping them feel valued
- Supporting the positive community feel we’re building at XFIT
- Giving tours to prospective new members
- Explaining our memberships clearly and confidently
- Signing up new members at the end of their tour
- Answering basic membership questions
- Keeping reception clean, organised and professional
- Carrying out regular cleaning duties around the gym
- Wiping down equipment and checking the gym floor
- Re-racking weights and keeping equipment tidy
- Reporting maintenance issues or anything that needs attention
- Supporting the smooth running and closing of the gym during your shift
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who is naturally friendly, confident and approachable.
You don’t need to be a Personal Trainer, but you do need to care about people, take pride in your work and understand the importance of great customer service.
You’ll be a great fit if you:
- Are warm, welcoming and easy to talk to
- Can remember names, details and conversations
- Enjoy making people feel comfortable and valued
- Are reliable, punctual and trustworthy
- Have high standards when it comes to cleanliness and presentation
- Are confident speaking to new people
- Can show prospective members around the gym with enthusiasm
- Are comfortable explaining memberships and helping people sign up
- Are proactive and happy to get stuck in
- Take pride in being part of a clean, professional and friendly gym
- Aged 18+
Hours and pay
The role is likely to be two 4-hour shifts per week, with shifts usually taking place on evenings and weekends.
Typical shift times are:
18:00 – 22:00 Weekdays
16:00 - 20:00 Saturdays
12:00 - 16:00 Sundays
Please note that shifts may be subject to change to support the needs of the business, but this would always be discussed in advance.
