FootEx is a football app built for the next generation of football fans.
We combine football games, competitions, community and real-time football experiences into one platform. Our mission is to become the daily destination for football fans worldwide — where users can play, compete, discuss and follow the game they love.
The app is already live with a growing community of users and strong organic acquisition through our social channels.
We are now looking for a talented Senior React Native Engineer with full-stack experience to join the team and help build the next phase of FootEx.
This is an opportunity to join early, work directly with the founders and help shape the technical direction of an ambitious football product.
The Role
We are looking for a senior engineer who can take ownership of major product areas and help us build scalable features used by thousands of football fans.
The ideal candidate will have strong React Native experience, a passion for building high-quality consumer applications, and the ability to work across both mobile and backend systems.
You will work closely with the founders and existing development team to design and develop new experiences across our mobile application and supporting infrastructure.
This is not a role where you simply complete tickets. You will help influence product decisions, make technical choices and play a key role in shaping the future of FootEx.
Key Product Areas
1. Live Football Experience
We are building a best-in-class live football experience focused on speed, reliability and fan engagement.
You will help develop:
- Live match centre
- Real-time scores and match events
- Fixtures and results
- League tables
- Team and player pages
- Lineups and match statistics
- Push notifications for goals, kick-off, results and key moments
- Integration with football data providers/APIs
- Scalable architecture to support future growth
2. Community & Social Features
Developing community-driven features that allow football fans to interact, share opinions and engage with one another.
You will help create:
- User-generated content
- Discussions and interactions
- Comments and replies
- Likes/upvotes
- Infinite scrolling feeds
- Content ranking systems
- User profiles
- Notifications
- Moderation tools
- Image and media uploads
The aim is to create a highly engaging football community that keeps users returning every day.
Technical Requirements
We are looking for someone with strong React Native experience who is comfortable working across the full stack.
Essential
Mobile Development
- Strong React Native experience
- Excellent TypeScript knowledge
- Experience building and maintaining production iOS and Android applications
- Strong understanding of mobile performance optimisation
- Experience publishing apps through App Store Connect and Google Play Console
- Ability to work within and improve an existing production codebase
React Ecosystem
- Strong understanding of React principles
- Experience with React-based frameworks such as Next.js is highly desirable
- Ability to build clean, maintainable and scalable user experiences
Full-Stack Experience
- Experience designing and building APIs
- Understanding of backend architecture
- Understanding of authentication, user systems and permissions
- Experience working with databases
- Ability to work across frontend and backend systems when required
Valuable Experience
Experience with the following would be highly beneficial:
- Node.js / TypeScript backend development
- PostgreSQL or other SQL databases
- Supabase, Firebase or similar backend platforms
- Real-time data systems
- WebSockets, subscriptions or event-driven systems
- Caching strategies
- Push notification systems
- Building scalable consumer-facing applications

We are open to different structures depending on experience:
