Company Overview

Re-Gen Waste is a leading recycling and waste management company based in Newry, Northern Ireland, providing waste processing and resource recovery services across the UK and Ireland. The company specialises in the treatment of Mixed Dry Recycling (MDR), household recycling, residual waste processing, and the production of alternative fuels such as Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) and Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF). Re-Gen operates one of Europe's most advanced Materials Recovery Facilities (MRF), where recyclable materials are sorted using automated technology and manual quality control systems. The company processes recyclable waste collected from local authorities and commercial customers, turning waste streams into valuable resources.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and reliable Digger Driver / Plant Operator to join our busy waste recycling facility. The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the site, ensuring materials are handled safely, efficiently, and in line with company procedures.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing business within the recycling and waste management sector, where health, safety, and environmental standards are a top priority.

Key Responsibilities

Operating excavators and other mobile plant machinery safely and efficiently.
Loading hoppers, shredders, and processing equipment with waste and recyclable materials.
Sorting and moving materials around the site.
Carrying out daily machinery checks and basic maintenance.
Ensuring work areas are kept clean, tidy, and safe.
Following all site health, safety, and environmental procedures.
Assisting with general yard and recycling operations when required.
Reporting equipment defects, hazards, or incidents promptly.

Requirements

Previous experience operating excavators/diggers in a waste, recycling, quarry, construction, or similar environment.
Valid plant operator certification (e.g., CPCS, NPORS, or equivalent).
Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong work ethic and reliability.
Flexibility to undertake other site duties as required.

Desirable Skills

Experience within a waste recycling facility.
Wheeled loading shovel or telehandler experience.
Basic mechanical knowledge and equipment maintenance skills.

Duration: Permanent position

Location: Newry

Hours: 12 hour shift work 6 to 6 including weekends
