We are hiring a Hotel Sales & Events Executive for our five star hotel in central Newcastle. You will be the person clients deal with when they are planning a wedding, a conference or an event with us, handling their enquiry from the first conversation through to a confirmed booking. It is a role for someone who enjoys working with people, knows how to build a good package and takes pride in getting the details right.
Our hotel brings together luxury accommodation, dedicated wedding spaces, meeting and business facilities, private dining, a spa, high end restaurants, a private wine cellar and a cigar lounge. We also look after VIP and high profile guests who expect genuine discretion and a level of service that never slips. There is plenty here to work with, and no shortage of variety in the enquiries that come through your door.
The role
You will own your enquiries from the first conversation through to confirmation and operational handover, covering weddings, conferences, group accommodation, venue hire, private dining, corporate meetings and bespoke events.
You will join an established commercial team of five Sales and Events Executives and two Sales Managers, working closely with Reservations, Events, Food and Beverage, Spa, Front Office and approved external booking partners. You will manage your own clients, relationships and sales opportunities while contributing to the wider team's targets.
Key responsibilities
- Manage wedding, event, meeting, venue hire and group accommodation enquiries from first contact through to confirmation.
- Speak with clients to understand their requirements, guest numbers, preferred dates, budget and expectations.
- Conduct show rounds and consultations, presenting the most suitable rooms, spaces and packages.
- Prepare accurate quotations, proposals, contracts and booking documents.
- Follow up leads promptly, answer questions and convert suitable enquiries into confirmed bookings.
- Build tailored packages combining accommodation, catering, private dining, spa access and meeting facilities.
- Spot appropriate opportunities to increase booking value through upgrades, additional nights, catering and premium experiences.
- Coordinate confirmed bookings with Reservations and relevant departments, ensuring everything is accurate before handover.
- Work with approved agencies and external partners to the hotel's service standards.
- Develop new business through relationships with local companies, event planners, wedding suppliers and professional networks.
- Maintain accurate client records, booking notes and follow up dates in the hotel's systems.
- Handle confidential and high profile enquiries with professionalism, sensitivity and discretion.
What we are looking for
- Previous experience in hotel sales, wedding or venue sales, events, reservations, luxury hospitality or a related consultative sales role.
- The ability to build trust and communicate professionally in person, by phone and in writing.
- Experience following up enquiries, preparing proposals or converting leads into confirmed business.
- Strong organisation and attention to detail across several bookings, deadlines and client requirements.
- A commercial approach, comfortable working towards individual and team targets.
- Confidence conducting consultations and presenting spaces during show rounds.
- The discretion and judgement needed to support VIP, private and high profile bookings.
- CRM, hotel reservation or event management system experience is useful, though training will be provided.
Salary and commission
Base salary of £30,000 per year, plus commission on the bookings you secure:
- 1% on qualifying hotel packages, group accommodation and venue hire.
- 1.5% on qualifying weddings, conferences and complete event packages.
- 2% on qualifying new business you personally generate.
Average total earnings are expected to be between £34,000 and £40,000 per year, depending on individual performance and eligible confirmed bookings. Full commission terms will be explained during the recruitment process.
Benefits
- One complimentary stay of up to seven nights each year in a junior suite at a participating hotel in our worldwide portfolio, subject to availability.
- 25% employee discount at participating hotels worldwide for you and up to three guests.
- 50% employee discount on eligible stays at your workplace hotel.
- One complimentary spa visit each month for you and a guest.
