Full job description

We're looking for an experienced registered nurse who wants to lead the home at night — the senior clinical presence on shift, trusted to lead, assess and make decisions.

At Brocklehurst you'll be the person the night team looks to. We'll back you to do the job properly, we pay for your breaks because a lone night nurse can't simply step away, and we expect you to genuinely own the shift.

What you'll be responsible for

Leading the night team — directing, supporting and supervising care staff through the shift, and setting the standard for how care is delivered overnight.
Monitoring residents and acting on change — completing observations, recognising deterioration early using NEWS2/RESTORE2, and escalating confidently and appropriately. This is the heart of the role.
Keeping care plans accurate — updating records overnight so they reflect what's actually happening with each resident, not what happened last week.
Preparing for the GP ward round — pulling together the clinical picture so the morning round is efficient, informed and focused on the residents who need it.
Managing medicines safely — safe administration including controlled drugs, plus ordering and stock control so the home is never caught short.
Holding a safe, calm environment — being the steady, professional point of contact for residents, families and colleagues throughout the night.

What we're looking for

Current NMC registration as an RGN.
The confidence and judgement to lead a shift and make sound clinical decisions on your own.
Strong assessment skills and a genuine grip on recognising and escalating deterioration.
Sound medicines management, including controlled drugs.
Experience of writing and maintaining meaningful care plans and risk assessments.
Calm under pressure, organised, and comfortable directing a team.
Night experience is welcome but not essential — the right attitude and clinical ability matter more.
