Weekend Filmmaking Teacher (Ages 8-12)
£20 per hour | Part-time | Weekly, ongoing
Help the next generation make films.
The Film & TV Academy (FTA) is looking for a passionate, creative Filmmaking Teacher to join our team and mentor young filmmakers aged 8–12.
Since 2021, FTA has been giving young people across Buckinghamshire the opportunity to learn filmmaking and acting, by actually making films. Students work with professional filmmaking equipment, exploring everything from screen-acting to cinematography to special effects, and see their finished films on the big screen at ODEON.
We're now recruiting for multiple weekly positions across our 3 locations.
Available Sessions
Milton Keynes - Friday (x1 session)
Beaconsfield - Saturday (x2 sessions)
Aylesbury - Sunday (x2 sessions)
Important: You do not need to work across all three locations. We're recruiting separately for each location, so please apply for whichever location(s) work best for you and tell us your preference in your application.
The Role
You'll lead weekly 3-hour filmmaking sessions where students work as a team to make films, under your guidance and leadership.
You'll help them explore:
- Storytelling
- Directing
- Cinematography
- Acting for camera
- Editing and post-production
- Working together as a film crew
Most importantly, you'll be a mentor - helping young people build confidence, develop their creativity and discover what they're capable of.
Who We're Looking For:
We're looking for someone who is capable of making a high quality short film; who understands the process of shooting, and then editing, to bring a short film project to life. In addition to this, we're looking for someone who is fun and friendly, and able to inspire young people and make the world of film feel exciting and accessible for them.
If you know how to make films, and you're a fun, friendly person, we want to hear from you!
Training & Support
You'll initially shadow FTA's founder and original teacher for this age group, learning how we run our sessions and develop our film projects.
After the initial shadowing period, you'll take ownership of your class and have the freedom to develop your own teaching style within the FTA framework.
What We Offer
- £20 per hour after the initial shadowing period
- Weekly, ongoing work
- A supportive creative team
- Initial training and mentoring
- Professional filmmaking equipment provided
- The opportunity to turn your film experience into meaningful work with young people
- The chance to help students create films that are ultimately screened at ODEON
Start Date: The weekend starting Friday 18th September 2026 (the day depends on what location you are interested in teaching at)
We're looking to fill these positions ahead of the new term.
How to Apply
Please apply with your CV and a short introduction telling us:
1. Your filmmaking/creative background
2. Any experience working with children or teaching
3. Which location(s) you're interested in - you do not need to commit to all three
