St Cecilia Chorus is looking for 2 Choral Scholars for the 2026-27 season (Sept 26-June 27).
St Cecilia Chorus is a friendly amateur SATB choir with about 55 members based in Banstead, Surrey. We sing a variety of choral music from the 16th century to contemporary and stage three concerts a year in our local area accompanied by professional soloists and orchestras, plus events at Christmas.
We are looking for 2 Choral Scholars to help enhance and support the choir. As well as having the opportunity to expand your knowledge of choral repertoire and technique, you will be able to develop your abilities through performance with the choir and solo performances (by agreement with the Music Director).
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:
- A desire to follow a musical career
- Choral and/or solo singing ability
- Secure sight-reading skills
- A passion for high standards of music making and choral singing
- Aged 18 or over at 1 September 2026
In return Choral Scholars will receive the following benefits:
Excellent training to support their music studies and improve their abilities as a choral singer and/or soloist under the direction of our Music Director Edward Walters and our accompanist Ian le Grice
Opportunities for solo performances at concerts and other events arranged by St Cecilia Chorus
Participation in a recruitment and selection process
Two complimentary adult tickets for each St Cecilia Chorus concert during their tenure
An honorarium of £400 per term (total £1200 for a season) plus potential extra fees for any other relevant solos as available throughout this period
Choral Scholars will be expected to:
Attend 2-hour rehearsals regularly, subject to agreement with the Music Director. Rehearsals are held weekly during term times on Thursdays starting 19:45 at Banstead Community Junior School, The Horseshoe, Banstead, SM7 2BQ
Perform at all concerts during the period of the agreement
Provide an approved deputy if unable to sing at a concert
Attend a probation meeting after one month of their appointment with the Music Director and Chair of St Cecilia Chorus.

Autumn concert 28 November 2026, 7.30pm, St John’s Church, Belmont SM2 6DY
Spring concert 20 March 2027, 7.30pm, Christ Church Sutton, SM2 5TN
Summer concert 12 June 2027, 7.30pm, Christ Church Sutton, SM2 5TN
