The Opportunity
PointSCAN Limited is looking for a practical and technically minded individual to join our team as a 3D Laser Scanning, Survey & CAD Assistant.
This is an entry-level position combining site-based 3D laser scanning and surveying with office-based point cloud processing and CAD work.
The successful candidate will work alongside experienced members of the PointSCAN team, assisting with the capture, processing and production of accurate survey information for projects throughout the UK.
Previous 3D laser scanning experience is not essential, as training will be provided. Some previous experience or education involving CAD, engineering, construction, surveying or another technical discipline would be advantageous.
We are particularly interested in finding someone who is technically minded, practical, accurate and keen to develop a long-term career within 3D surveying, reality capture and CAD.
The Role
The position will involve a combination of site work and office-based technical work.
3D Laser Scanning & Surveying
You will initially assist experienced members of the team with:
- Preparing and checking surveying equipment
- Setting up and operating 3D laser scanning equipment
- Positioning survey targets and reference equipment
- Assisting with survey control and site measurements
- Ensuring survey areas are completely and accurately captured
- Maintaining site and survey records
- Working safely within construction, engineering and industrial environments
- Travelling to project sites throughout the UK
As your experience develops, you will be trained to undertake increasing elements of the survey independently.
Point Cloud Processing
You will receive training in the processing of 3D laser scanning data, including:
- Downloading and organising survey data
- Point cloud registration
- Checking scan alignment and survey completeness
- Basic point cloud quality assurance
- Preparing registered point clouds for CAD and other deliverables
- FARO SCENE
- Autodesk ReCap
CAD
A key part of the role will be developing the ability to convert 3D survey information into accurate CAD documentation.
This will progressively include:
- Working with registered point clouds within AutoCAD
- Extracting measurements and geometry from point cloud data
- Producing 2D floor plans
- Producing elevations and sections
- Preparing general arrangement drawings
- Adding dimensions, annotations and drawing information
- Following PointSCAN drawing standards and templates
- Checking drawings against the original survey data
- Assisting with revisions and drawing updates
Training will be provided, although previous experience with AutoCAD or another CAD package would be advantageous.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold a full UK driving licence
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Be able to reliably travel to our Sandy, Bedfordshire office
- Be prepared to travel to project sites throughout the UK
- Be prepared for occasional early starts and overnight stays
- Be confident using computers and technology
- Have strong attention to detail
- Be practical and comfortable working with technical equipment
- Be able to work accurately and methodically
- Be willing to learn new software and technical processes
- Be able to follow quality, technical and health & safety procedures
- Be comfortable working both on site and in an office environment
- Be reliable, punctual and professional

Previous experience is not essential, but any experience or qualifications involving the following would be beneficial:
- AutoCAD
- Engineering or technical drawing

- Total stations or GNSS equipment
A current CSCS card or other relevant construction-site qualification would also be advantageous.
Security & Client Site Access
PointSCAN works across a variety of client sites, including infrastructure, industrial, construction and security-controlled environments.
Appointment will therefore be subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks and the successful candidate being able to meet any security, vetting and site-access requirements applicable to the projects on which they are required to work.
Training & Career Development
Training will be provided in PointSCAN's surveying equipment, software, processes and quality procedures.

As skills and experience develop, there will be opportunities to take on greater responsibility and progress into a 3D Laser Scanning & CAD Technician position.
The role is initially part-time, three days per week, with the potential to develop into a full-time permanent position as competence, responsibility and business requirements increase.

Pay: £27,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
