Overview
As one of the fastest growing energy suppliers in the UK, we are looking to recruit a Regulatory Reporting Lead based at our offices in Guiseley.
Reporting to the Head of Regulation and Compliance, the successful candidate will own the end-to-end reporting process: planning each return, agreeing data ownership, coordinating contributors and approvers, obtaining and populating data, performing assurance checks, securing sign-off, submitting through the relevant channel and managing any subsequent questions, corrections or resubmissions.
The role is the single point of coordination for regulatory reporting across UGP. It does not mean personally creating every source dataset; designated business and system owners remain responsible for their underlying information. The Regulatory Reporting Lead will make sure those inputs are clearly defined, traceable, reconciled, challenged, evidenced and brought together into one accurate and controlled submission.
At UGP we aim to attract people from diverse backgrounds to build on our inclusive culture. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, race, gender, religion or beliefs, disability, gender identity or sexual orientation.
Responsibilities
1. End-to-end reporting ownership and governance
-
Own and maintain a complete regulatory reporting catalogue, central calendar, forward plan and RACI covering monthly, quarterly, six-monthly, annual, one-off and emerging obligations.
- Plan each reporting cycle from launch to closure, setting clear internal deadlines, contributors, data owners, reviewers, approvers and escalation routes.
- Coordinate preparation, independent review, senior or Board approval and submission through Huddle, regulator portals, code body portals, email or other required channels.
- Maintain a complete audit trail for every return, including regulatory instructions, source extracts, queries, methodology, calculations, reconciliations, approvals, submitted versions and post-submission correspondence.
- Track actions, conditions, extensions, regulator feedback, corrections and resubmissions to completion, escalating delivery or quality risks early.
2. Indicative reporting portfolio
Financial resilience and governance
Financial Responsibility Principle (FRP) monthly returns; FRP material-change trigger notifications; annual Stress Test and six-monthly base-case updates; Annual Adequacy Self-Assessment (AASA); Consolidated Segmental Statements (CSS); Market Compliance Review / Sufficient Control submissions; and annual Fit and Proper / SMRI self-assessment processes.
-
Market monitoring and customer outcomes
Ofgem Non-Domestic Market Monitoring (NDMM) RFI returns and any associated corrections or resubmissions if required, including customer and contract populations, microbusiness and small-business classification, consumption bands, complaints, arrears, Change of Tenancy and other required sections.
-
RFIs, casework and emerging requirements
One-off and recurring Ofgem RFIs, including TPI-related data collections; consultations and calls for input; information requests, assurance questions, remediation plans and follow-up evidence; and new or revised reporting requirements introduced by Ofgem or government.
-
Industry and scheme reporting
Returns, evidence and data requests from DESNZ, NESO and relevant code or scheme bodies such as REC, DCC, SECAS and Elexon, together with other regulatory or industry submissions allocated to the Regulation and Compliance function.
The portfolio is indicative and will evolve as regulatory and industry requirements change.
3. Data sourcing, automation and partnership with IT
-
Work closely with IT, system owners and business teams to identify the authoritative source for each data field and establish documented data definitions, ownership, lineage and extraction methods.
- Coordinate the extraction and collation of data from systems such as CRM, billing, metering, finance, complaints, collections, commercial and TPI platforms, ensuring the reporting population is complete and appropriate for the relevant period.
- Develop, with IT, repeatable and proportionate automation for data extraction, validation, reconciliation and template population using appropriate tools such as Power Query, SQL, Power BI, workflow tools or controlled scripts.
- Translate regulatory requirements into clear technical and functional specifications for IT, including data fields, classification rules, cut-off dates, exception handling, control totals and required outputs.
- Test automated reports and changes before use, retain test evidence, manage defects and ensure there is a documented manual contingency where an automated process is unavailable.
- Maintain a prioritised improvement roadmap that reduces manual handling, spreadsheet risk, duplication and reliance on single individuals while preserving effective human review and challenge.
4. Data quality, reconciliation and assurance
-
Interpret the applicable licence condition, guidance, RFI instructions, definitions and template requirements and convert them into clear, report-specific methodologies and validation rules.
- Perform proportionate checks for completeness, accuracy, consistency, including reconciliation to source systems, control totals, finance records, previous submissions and related returns.
- Identify unusual movements, omissions, duplicate or double-counting requirements, classification issues, inconsistent reporting populations and other data-quality risks; investigate root causes and agree corrective action.
- Challenge data constructively and independently, document assumptions and limitations, and ensure unresolved matters are visible to the Head of Regulation and Compliance and the relevant approver before sign-off.
- Prepare concise assurance summaries for senior management and the Board, setting out key movements, judgements, exceptions, risks and the evidence supporting submission.
5. Controls, documentation and GRC
-
Build and maintain report-specific procedures, process maps, data dictionaries, checklists, control descriptions, evidence standards and handover documentation.
- Record reporting obligations, risks, controls, actions, evidence, ownership and assurance outcomes within UGP's GRC framework, supporting clear oversight and auditability.
- Operate version control and controlled access arrangements so there is one agreed working version and one definitive submitted version for each return.
- Support internal audit, external assurance and regulatory reviews by producing complete evidence packs and responding promptly to testing or follow-up questions.
- Ensure appropriate business continuity, cross-training and deputy arrangements are in place for time-critical submissions.
6. Stakeholder, regulator and Board engagement
-
Act as UGP's central point of contact for assigned reporting obligations, coordinating Finance, Commercial, Operations, Customer Services, Metering, IT, Collections, TPI and other relevant teams.
- Build effective relationships with data owners and senior stakeholders, agreeing clear responsibilities and ensuring reporting activity receives the required priority and resource.
- Coordinate responses to Ofgem and other bodies, attend reporting briefings, pre-submission discussions, Q&A sessions and working groups where appropriate, and maintain an accurate record of decisions and clarifications.
- Produce clear submission summaries, dashboards and status updates for the Head of Regulation and Compliance, senior management and Board approvers where applicable.
- Deliver guidance, briefings and training to embed reporting requirements and lessons learned across the business.
7. Regulatory change and continuous improvement
-
Monitor changes to reporting guidance, templates, licence requirements and regulatory expectations, assessing impacts on data, systems, controls, resourcing and deadlines.
- Lead implementation of new or revised returns, including impact assessment, mobilisation, requirements definition, testing, documentation, training and transition into business-as-usual operation.
- Analyse errors, regulator queries and resubmissions to identify root causes and implement sustainable upstream and downstream improvements rather than short-term fixes.
- Benchmark reporting practice, standardise common controls and simplify processes while maintaining appropriate regulatory judgement and oversight
The Individual
The ideal candidate will combine strong organisation and delivery skills with the confidence to interrogate data, interpret detailed requirements and coordinate colleagues across multiple functions. Energy-sector experience would be valuable, but candidates from other regulated industries are welcome where they can demonstrate comparable reporting, assurance, control or data-governance experience.

- Proven ability to manage several fixed deadlines and coordinate inputs, challenge, review and approval across different teams.
- Strong analytical skills and confidence working with large or complex datasets, reconciliations, trends, exceptions and control totals.
- Advanced working knowledge of Excel, including formulas, pivots, lookups and structured validation; able to learn reporting portals and systems quickly.
- Ability to interpret detailed regulatory guidance and convert it into practical requirements, methodologies, controls and instructions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the confidence to challenge constructively, escalate risk and communicate with senior colleagues.
- Meticulous attention to detail, sound judgement, discretion and a calm approach under pressure.
DESIRABLE
-
Knowledge of the GB energy market, Ofgem supplier regulation, non-domestic supply or market-monitoring returns.
- Experience with data automation or analytics tools such as Power BI.
- Experience working with IT or data teams to define requirements, test outputs and resolve data-lineage or system issues.
- Experience of GRC systems, regulatory change, process mapping, audit trails, external assurance or Board-level reporting.
- Exposure to financial resilience, forecasting, customer, metering, billing, complaints, collections or commercial datasets.
- Relevant professional qualification or degree in compliance, finance, risk, data, audit, business analysis or a related discipline.
