Claire House Children’s Hospice – Ward Manager Band 7

Why this role?

We are looking for an experienced, compassionate and values-led Ward Manager to help lead our 24/7 hospice inpatient service. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who wants real autonomy, genuine leadership influence and the chance to see the impact of their work every day.

As a smaller, specialist service, Claire House offers something different. You will be visible, known and able to shape improvements in a way that can feel harder in larger organisations. You will have the space to lead, influence how the service develops and work closely with committed teams who are passionate about getting things right for children, young people and families.

About the role

This is a varied and rewarding leadership role with responsibility for the safe, effective and well-organised running of the hospice ward. You will support day-to-day operational oversight, staffing, rostering, bed management, quality improvement and people management, while helping to create a positive and supportive culture for staff.

The role does require confidence with decision-making, prioritisation and managing competing demands, including HR and operational responsibilities. However, you will be part of a supportive leadership structure and will have the opportunity to develop, influence and make a real difference.

About you

A compassionate, confident and inspiring leadership style
Experience in operational management, people management and leading teams
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and remain calm under pressure
Experience or understanding of complex care, palliative care or children and young people’s services
A proactive, solution-focused approach to service improvement
The confidence to work autonomously while also building strong partnerships across teams
