Full job description

George Family Holdings is a private family office and investment group with a portfolio spanning commercial property, strategic land, logistics, specialist trading businesses and telecoms. The Group Payroll and Bookkeeper will work alongside our Executive Partners to provide day-to-day bookkeeping across the group companies, taking ownership of the purchase ledger, supplier payments and payroll support so that the finance administration of a growing multi-entity group runs accurately and on time.

Key responsibilities

Purchase ledger and supplier payments

Process purchase invoices across all group companies, coding to the correct entity, nominal and cost centre.
Match invoices to purchase orders and delivery notes where applicable; obtain approval in line with group authorisation limits before payment.
Prepare weekly/fortnightly supplier payment runs for approval, and set up payments accurately on the banking platforms.
Reconcile supplier statements, resolve queries and disputed invoices directly with suppliers.
Maintain clean, up-to-date ledgers for each entity, with intercompany invoices and recharges correctly recorded.

Sales ledger and banking

Raise sales invoices, rent demands and intercompany recharges as instructed.
Perform bank reconciliations for each entity on a regular cycle.
Monitor and chase outstanding receivables, escalating aged debt.

Payroll assistance

Collate monthly payroll data across group companies: starters, leavers, hours, overtime, expenses and changes.
Liaise with the payroll provider/accountants to ensure accurate and timely processing, and check outputs before payment.
Assist with pension auto-enrolment submissions, HMRC PAYE payments and payroll journals.

General finance administration

Assist with VAT return preparation and supporting records for each registered entity.
Maintain organised digital filing of invoices and finance records in line with group systems (Microsoft 365 / SharePoint/Xero/Quickbooks).
Support the group’s external accountants at year end with schedules and documentation.
Provide holiday and absence cover on core finance admin tasks, and ad hoc support to the wider team as required.

Person specification

Essential

Solid bookkeeping experience, ideally across multiple companies or entities.
Confident with purchase ledger end-to-end: processing, approvals, payment runs and supplier reconciliations.
Working knowledge of payroll processes (in-house or via a bureau/accountant).
Competent with accounting software (e.g. Xero, Sage or QuickBooks) and strong Excel skills.
Accurate, organised and discreet — comfortable handling confidential information in a private family office environment.
Able to manage a varied workload across several entities and prioritise to payment and payroll deadlines without close supervision.

Desirable

AAT qualified or part-qualified (or qualified by experience).
Experience in property, construction, logistics or other multi-entity SME groups.
Familiarity with CIS, VAT across mixed schemes, and intercompany accounting.
