Role Summary
To support the Home Manager in the day-to-day leadership, operational management and delivery of high-quality, safe and person-centred care within the Home. The Deputy Manager plays a key role in promoting resident wellbeing, dignity, independence and positive outcomes while supporting effective governance, workforce management and service delivery.
The role provides operational, clinical and professional leadership throughout the Home, supporting teams to deliver compassionate, responsive and high-quality care in line with regulatory, professional and organisational standards. The Deputy Manager will support the coordination of staffing, resident care, quality assurance, safeguarding and multidisciplinary working while contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of the service.
In the absence of the Home Manager, the Deputy Manager may assume delegated responsibility for operational oversight and the coordination of the Home in line with organisational requirements and regulatory expectations.
The role may involve supporting residents living with dementia, mental health conditions, behavioural support needs or complex care requirements depending on the service environment.

Key Responsibilities
Service Delivery & Stakeholder Experience

Support the Home Manager in leading the delivery of high-quality, safe and person-centred care tailored to individual resident needs, preferences and outcomes in line with RQIA care home minimum standards 2022.

Promote resident wellbeing, dignity, independence, choice and quality of life across all aspects of care and service delivery.

Support effective oversight of assessments, care planning, risk management and clinical interventions to ensure safe and responsive care.

Ensure residents, families and representatives are treated with compassion, professionalism and respect and are appropriately involved in care and decision-making processes.

Communication & Collaborative Working

Develop and maintain effective working relationships with residents, relatives, advocates, multidisciplinary teams, regulators and external professionals.

Liaise professionally with GPs, pharmacists, inpatient teams, social workers, community teams and external agencies to support safe and effective resident care.

Ensure effective communication systems, handovers, meetings and escalation processes operate throughout the Home.

Promote effective multidisciplinary working and collaborative approaches to resident care and service delivery.

Escalate safeguarding concerns, incidents, operational risks or clinical issues appropriately and without delay.

Support resident, relative and staff engagement initiatives and encourage feedback to support service improvement.

Communicate organisational priorities, expectations and service developments clearly and professionally to teams.
Governance, Compliance & Professional Standards

Support compliance with all relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, professional standards and organisational policies.

Promote safe working practices and maintain oversight of safeguarding, infection prevention and control, medicines management, health and safety and risk management processes.

Support effective clinical governance, quality assurance, audit activity and continuous improvement initiatives across the Home.

Ensure accurate, timely and appropriate care documentation, governance records and operational reporting systems are maintained.

Support the management of incidents, accidents, complaints, investigations and safeguarding processes in line with organisational procedures.

Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean and suitable environment for residents, visitors and colleagues.

Support regulatory inspections, audits, reviews and action plans where required.

Ensure compliance with RQIA, NMC, NISCC and organisational requirements where applicable.

Adhere to safeguarding, emergency procedures, fire safety requirements and organisational health and safety processes at all times, escalating concerns appropriately and without delay.
Financial & Operational Management

Support the effective and responsible use of staffing, equipment, stock and operational resources within agreed parameters.

Assist in monitoring staffing levels, rota management, agency usage and operational pressures to support safe and sustainable service delivery.

Support oversight of environmental standards, equipment safety, maintenance reporting and operational systems across the Home.

Contribute to effective stock control, ordering processes and resource management within the Home.

Support service development, operational improvement and efficient working practices where appropriate.

Assist in ensuring operational schedules, audits and reporting requirements are completed accurately and within required timescales.
