Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Welsh Speaking (Rhugl yn Gymraeg)

Type: Contract / Long-term / Supply (depending on availability)
Location: Cardiff
Start date: ASAP
Hours: Full-time (part-time considered)
Pay: £100–£120 per day (dependent on experience)

Are you a fluent Welsh-speaking Higher Level Teaching Assistant looking to make a meaningful impact on children’s learning and development? Elementa Support Services is working in partnership with supportive and forward-thinking schools to recruit enthusiastic and skilled Welsh-speaking HLTAs who can deliver high-quality support across the curriculum, including through the medium of Welsh.

This is a fantastic opportunity to inspire young people, promote the Welsh language, and support pupils’ academic and emotional development within inclusive and engaging learning environments.

About the Role

As a Welsh-speaking HLTA, you will:

Support teachers in planning and delivering engaging lessons in line with the national curriculum, including Welsh-medium provision
Deliver learning activities and support pupils through the medium of Welsh
Work with small groups and individual pupils to accelerate progress
Support pupils’ emotional, social, and behavioural development (ELSA experience desirable)
Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
Assess, monitor, and report on pupil progress effectively
Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and positive behaviour at all times
Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the wider school community

What We’re Looking For

To be considered, candidates must have:

Fluent Welsh language skills (spoken and written)
Level 4 Teaching Assistant qualification
Previous experience working with children in a school setting
Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply (Elementa can assist)

Desirable:

Experience as an ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant)
Experience supporting pupils across Key Stages 1-4
Strong communication, organisation, and classroom management skills
Experience working in Welsh-medium or bilingual settings

Recruitment & Safeguarding Information

All applications will be managed by Elementa Support Services as the recruitment partner for this client. Elementa is committed to safeguarding children, and all successful applicants will undergo a full pre-screening process. Any appointment will be subject to:

A successful interview process
Satisfactory references
Safeguarding & Prevent training
Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration in the appropriate categories
Enhanced DBS Disclosure (which may be chargeable at £64.20 unless subscribed to the Update Service)
Successful completion of a 12-week / 60 paid day employment trial period

Weekly pay – no waiting for monthly payroll cut-off dates; Elementa pays one week in lieu
