Full job description

Job Purpose

Lead the development and growth of the Centre through increased engagement with the local community, so that more local people are aware of the Centre and benefit from its activities and programmes.
Build and manage a strong network of partners – including third-sector organisations (schools, youth clubs, health, housing, police and hard-to-reach groups), local businesses and funders – to identify unmet needs and to develop, resource and deliver activities and new groups for the community.
Act as an ambassador for the Centre, raising its profile, increasing footfall and championing opportunities for the involvement and participation of all, including vulnerable and under-represented groups.
Secure the sustainability of the Centre by identifying and winning funding, growing income, and monitoring and reporting outcomes to the Centre Manager to inform future decisions and service deliver.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead and deliver the Centre’s community development plan, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment and growing engagement and footfall across the local community.

2. Plan, organise and manage a range of events, activities and new groups that meet local and user needs and advance the Centre’s aims and objectives, working closely with the Board and Centre team.

3. Establish, build and manage strong, robust relationships within the local community and a network of key partners, including schools, youth clubs, health, housing, police and hard-to-reach groups.

4. Develop and grow relationships with local businesses and organisations to support the Centre financially, with marketing, with materials of any nature (refurbishment, stationery, furniture) and through volunteering.

5. Act as the key point of contact for the local community in identifying unmet needs, canvassing public opinion and specifically including the views of young people and under-represented groups.

6. Carry out research into the local area to identify shortfalls in services and use community consultation to shape and complement the local offer.

7. Identify and secure funding from local and national sources – gathering relevant data, preparing applications and bids, and managing associated reporting requirements.

8. Collect data, monitor outcomes and prepare regular written reports for the Board of Trustees to better inform strategy, decisions and the future delivery of services.

9. Recruit, support and coordinate volunteers to aid the delivery of activities and events.

10. Organise the annual open day through community consultation and promote the Centre at other local events.

11. Raise the profile of the Centre, maintaining and developing all promotional and social media platforms and embedding working relationships with local media.

12. Respond to enquiries, show potential users around the Centre, and manage the implementation, costing and promotion of new activities.

13. Act as a keyholder, ensuring the secure opening and closing of the Centre as and when required, which may include unsociable hours and weekends.

14. Work as part of a team to produce high-quality outcomes, deputising for and undertaking other duties as required in the absence of [the Centre Manager / Chief Officer].

Qualifications - All criteria detailed below are essential, unless stated as “D” (desirable).

Minimum 5 GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths and English.
Knowledge of health and safety, with a willingness to undertake all mandatory training.
Competent IT skills to enable delivery of the priorities of the post.
A relevant qualification in community development, youth/community work or a related field (D).
