About The Role
As a Senior RF Engineer, the candidate will support the design, deployment and optimisation of our wireless mobile solutions across the HS2 project. The Senior RF Engineer will work in a multi-discipline design team to design solutions that meet customers’ needs. You will lead the cellular RF design of trackside macro cell sites serving millions of passengers every year.
What You’ll Be Doing
-
Carry out RF and Design Surveys for tunnel radiating infrastructure.
-
Perform RF modelling, link budgets and design using industry standard methods and tools.
-
Work with station RF design engineers to create 3D design models of tunnel evactuation shafts and portal buildings.
-
Collaborate with outdoor RF design engineers to co-ordinate handovers between the tunnel and open route environments, ensuring seamless connectivity.
-
Participate in engineering discussions acting as RF design expert to address challenges unique to high-speed rail and tunnel environments.
-
Ensure suitability of the installation to the tunnel environment considering space, heat, vibration, dust etc.
-
Ensure compliance with RF safety best practice and guidelines such as ICNIRP.
-
Lead product and component selection to minimise system losses and ensure system quality minimising factors such as PIM.
-
Review results, drawings and reports conducted by others.
-
Lead optimisation activities to manage interference and ensure system performance is maximised.
-
Design criteria/requirements, system dimensioning, link budget and traffic analysis.
-
Create low level designs including Bills of Materials, cable schedules and detailed system configuration diagrams, ensuring costs are closely controlled throughout the design process.
-
Understand the wider context of the design and ensure external interfaces are considered working with other team members to implement an integrated design.
-
Ensure designs are dimensioned for current demand and scalable to adapt for future growth and changes in MNO requirements.
-
Participate in equipment co-ordination sessions with HS2 stakeholders and partners ensuring the needs of the RF design are represented in decision-making and minimise design change.
-
Participate in MNO review sessions being able to present the design and provide justification for the design and technical decisions.
- Complete RAMS and abide by company H&S policy.
-
Work with project managers and co-ordinators to deliver projects on time and on budget.
-
Liaise with customers, presenting designs to clients, stakeholders and project teams
-
Complete any Handover Packs, Post Integration Reports and Design Reports on agreed timescales and report templates.
-
Provide estimates on resources required for particular tasks.
-
Updating any internal reporting system as required.
-
Familiarisation of all company documentation, especially ISO procedures.
This role requires 2 days per week located in Birmingham.
What You’ll Bring
-
Experience RF planning, designing and optimising tunnel coverage solutions within the rail industry.
-
Knowledge of UK or IE mobile network architecture models and standards
-
Experience of testing methodologies, test tools such as scanners and test phones (TEMS, NEMO)
-
Experience of designing DAS equipment rooms, including MNO equipment requirements, dimensioning DAS head end, and defining electrical and cooling loads.
-
Knowledge of working with architects & BIM modelling teams to plan spacial co-ordination of equipment.
-
Advanced knowledge in optimisation and performance optimisation
-
Advanced knowledge of 3GPP standards especially relating to high-speed rail scenarios and its impact on RAN performance.
-
Advanced knowledge of radio propagation models, fade margins and other environmental factors impacting RF coverage.
-
Good knowledge of Radio Link Budgets
