Full job description

Location: Hybrid / Reading (2 days per week)

Role purpose

This is a hands-on press office role for someone at the start of their PR career who wants real ownership and the opportunity to build strong media relationships in a fast-moving fintech and financial services business.

The Press Officer will help protect and grow Dynamic Planner’s profile across the financial services trade press and support our ambition to build greater national media awareness. You will own the day-to-day press office: developing stories, pitching to journalists, managing editorial opportunities, coordinating comment, supporting research and data-led PR, and ensuring we maintain a consistent pipeline of proactive media activity.

You will work closely with the Marketing Director, senior leaders, subject matter experts, content and product marketing teams to turn Dynamic Planner’s expertise, data, research, customer momentum and product innovation into credible stories that journalists want to cover. Key themes include AI (Advice-grade AI) and the future of advice, financial wellbeing, investment services, adviser technology, risk and suitability, targeted support and the advice gap.

Although this is a junior role it is not a purely administrative one. We are looking for someone proactive, organised and confident enough to pick up the phone, build relationships and keep activity moving. You will receive support and development, while being expected to grow quickly into the day-to-day owner of Dynamic Planner’s press office.

Key responsibilities

Press office and media relations

Own the day-to-day running of Dynamic Planner’s press office, maintaining an active pipeline of news, commentary, features, interviews and forward-planned media opportunities.
Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists across FT Adviser, Money Marketing, Professional Adviser, Citywire and other relevant trade titles, while helping develop our national media network.
Proactively pitch stories and spokespeople rather than relying solely on inbound media requests or formal press releases.
Respond quickly and professionally to journalist enquiries, coordinating accurate comments, data and spokespeople within deadlines.

PR planning and proactive story development

Maintain a rolling PR calendar aligned to company priorities, product launches, research, events, campaigns, regulatory themes and key moments in the financial advice market.
Identify newsworthy angles from across the business, including customer momentum, product innovation, AI, adviser productivity, investment services and market insight.
Work with colleagues to turn complex business developments into clear, credible and timely media stories.
Support major announcements and launches with coordinated media plans, target lists, briefing materials and follow-up.

Thought leadership, commentary and columns

Coordinate Dynamic Planner’s programme of regular trade press columns and contributed articles, managing deadlines, topics, internal contributors and editorial relationships.
Develop timely comment opportunities around FCA developments, adviser technology, AI adoption, client engagement, investment markets and the advice gap.
Brief and interview senior leaders and subject matter experts to draw out strong points of view and turn expertise into media-ready content.
Maintain a clear view of where Dynamic Planner should have a voice and proactively create opportunities for our experts to contribute.

Research and data-led PR

Support the PR strategy for Dynamic Planner research and proprietary data, including the Financial Happiness Index, Advice Pulse and Investment Services insight.
Work with internal data owners, content and product teams to identify compelling findings, build media narratives and create journalist-ready story packages.
Develop targeted pitches and supporting materials that extend the life of research beyond launch day and create an ongoing flow of coverage.

Trade and National media profile building

Help build on Dynamic Planner’s excellent trade media momentum by researching journalists, developing tailored angles and maintaining consistent follow-up over time.
Support senior spokespeople with briefing notes, interview preparation and background materials for higher-profile opportunities.
Recognise that national coverage often requires sustained relationship building and keep long-term opportunities active and well managed.

Podcast and media programme support

Coordinate the ongoing Connected podcast programme, working with internal stakeholders and external guests to maintain a strong forward schedule.
Support guest research, briefing, scheduling, recording logistics, approvals and promotional planning for partners and industry leaders.
Ensure each episode is amplified through PR, content and social channels and contributes to Dynamic Planner’s wider thought leadership programme.

Events and reputation

Support media engagement around Dynamic Planner events and the annual conference, including journalist invitations, briefings, interviews and follow-up.
Monitor media coverage and emerging issues, escalating reputational or sensitive matters quickly to the Marketing Director.
Support issues and crisis communications activity when required, working with senior internal stakeholders and specialist external support where appropriate.

Measurement and continuous improvement

Using our media tracking system track coverage, media engagement, share of voice, message pull-through and the quality of media relationships, not simply the number of press releases issued.
Maintain accurate media lists, coverage records, editorial calendars and PR reporting.
Use performance insight to identify which themes, spokespeople and story formats are gaining traction and improve the PR plan accordingly.
Use AI tools responsibly to accelerate media research, monitoring, first drafts and briefing preparation while protecting accuracy, originality and editorial judgement.

Competencies (knowledge/skills/experience)

Some PR, journalism, communications or press office experience is highly desirable, through a first role, internship, placement or relevant practical experience. Financial services experience is helpful but not essential.
Strong written English and the ability to turn complex information into clear, concise and interesting copy.
A genuine interest in news, media and what makes a story relevant to a journalist and their audience.
Confident and proactive communication skills, including a willingness to contact journalists, follow up pitches and build professional relationships.
Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, editorial commitments and fast-moving requests without losing attention to detail.
Curious and self-starting; comfortable asking questions, researching unfamiliar topics and finding the angle in a business update or data set.
Good stakeholder skills and the confidence to work with senior leaders and subject matter experts to secure input and keep activity moving.
Sound editorial judgement, with a strong focus on accuracy, proofreading and appropriate handling of commercially or reputationally sensitive information.
An interest in financial services, fintech, AI and the future of financial advice, with the appetite to build deep market knowledge quickly.
Comfort using digital tools, media databases, monitoring platforms and AI tools to improve research and productivity.
A collaborative approach and willingness to work closely with content, demand generation, product marketing, events and social teams so PR activity is amplified across channels.

Education & qualifications

Relevant experience, writing ability and potential are more important than a specific qualification. A degree or qualification in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing, English or a related discipline is particularly beneficial, but not essential. NCTJ, CIPR or PRCA training would also be welcomed.
