EliteSight HomeCare provides mobile eye and hearing-care services primarily within residential and nursing care homes.
We are expanding our hearing-care service across the South West and are looking for a dependable, compassionate and highly organised Hearing Care Assistant to take responsibility for mobile care-home clinics throughout the region.
This is not a fixed-site clinic position. It is a field-based role involving regular travel, independent working and responsibility for representing EliteSight HomeCare with care-home managers, residents and family members.
The advertised location is Taunton because it provides a central base for the territory. The successful applicant may live elsewhere within the South West, provided they can travel reliably to scheduled clinics.
Territory
The role may include care homes across:
- Somerset
- Devon
- Dorset
- Bristol
- Exeter
- Plymouth
- Bournemouth
- Selected surrounding areas
Clinics will be grouped geographically wherever possible to reduce unnecessary travel. Some longer clinic days and occasional overnight stays may be required.
The role
Our care-home hearing pathway normally involves:
- Initial ear-health checks and hearing screening
- Identifying residents who require earwax removal, monitoring or onward referral
- Performing earwax removal where appropriate and within your verified competence
- Booking comprehensive hearing assessments with an Audiologist or Hearing Aid Dispenser
- Coordinating follow-up with care-home staff, residents and family representatives
Main responsibilities
- Plan and attend mobile ear-health clinics throughout the assigned South-West territory.
- Act as the main EliteSight HomeCare representative during care-home visits.
- Build effective relationships with care-home managers, staff and coordinators.
- Explain the clinic process clearly to residents, relatives and care teams.
- Obtain and document appropriate consent before providing care.
- Complete relevant medical-history and contraindication checks.
- Conduct otoscopy and ear-health checks.
- Complete hearing screening using approved equipment and company procedures.
- Identify residents requiring earwax removal, monitoring, onward referral or comprehensive hearing assessment.
- Perform earwax removal only where appropriately trained, competent and authorised.
- Recognise when treatment must be stopped, deferred or escalated.
- Provide appropriate preparation and aftercare advice.
- Book comprehensive hearing assessments with the Audiologist or Hearing Aid Dispenser.
- Maintain accurate patient records and clinic trackers.
- Complete handovers and next-action lists following each clinic.
- Communicate outstanding actions promptly to the appropriate team members.
- Manage clinical equipment, infection-control materials and stock.
- Support residents, families and care-home teams with follow-up arrangements.
- Help ensure residents attend scheduled audiology appointments.
- Work within company safeguarding, consent, data-protection and clinical-governance procedures.
Essential requirements
- Previous experience in audiology, ear care, hearing care, healthcare or another relevant patient-facing role.
- Experience supporting older adults or vulnerable patients.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently while following approved clinical pathways.
- Strong organisation, diary management and record keeping.
- Confidence using tablets, digital records and mobile clinical equipment.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned territory.
- Willingness to complete occasional overnight stays where required.
- Right to work in the United Kingdom.
- Willingness to complete reference, qualification, driving-licence and appropriate DBS checks.
Earwax-removal experience
Formal earwax-removal training and practical experience are strongly preferred.
Applicants with relevant audiology or healthcare experience who have not yet completed earwax-removal training may still be considered where they demonstrate appropriate patient-care skills and the ability to complete structured training and competency assessment.
No employee will provide earwax removal independently until their training, insurance status and practical competence have been verified.
Desirable experience
- Previous employment as a Hearing Care Assistant or Audiology Assistant.
- Earwax-removal experience involving microsuction, irrigation or manual instrumentation.
- Previous mobile or domiciliary healthcare experience.
- Previous work within residential or nursing care homes.
- Experience supporting people living with dementia or reduced mental capacity.
- Knowledge of consent, safeguarding and clinical escalation.
- Experience using video otoscopy or hearing-screening equipment.
- Familiarity with hearing aids or private audiology pathways.
- Experience managing a regional clinic diary.
- Experience coordinating appointments with residents, families, care homes and clinicians.

Scope of the position
The Hearing Care Assistant will work within their verified training, competence and approved company procedures.
The role does not include independently diagnosing hearing loss, conducting comprehensive diagnostic hearing assessments, prescribing hearing aids or providing treatment outside the employee’s authorised clinical scope.
Comprehensive hearing assessments and hearing-aid recommendations will be completed by an appropriately qualified Audiologist or Hearing Aid Dispenser.
