Job Description – Handyman / Maintenance Operative
Job Title: Handyman / Maintenance Operative
Location: London
Hours: 40 hours per week – Mon-Fri – 8am-5pm
Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 per annum (depending on experience)
About the Role
We are seeking a reliable, practical and hardworking Handyman / Maintenance Operative to join our property services team. This is a varied role involving day-to-day maintenance duties across residential and commercial properties, supporting our property management operation and ensuring our buildings are maintained to a high standard.
The successful candidate will be hands-on, customer-focused and capable of working independently. Formal trade qualifications are not essential; however, candidates should be confident carrying out basic maintenance works, diagnosing issues and recognising when specialist contractors are required. The role requires a proactive approach and a willingness to support a wide range of property management and operational activities.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance & Repairs
- Carry out routine handyman duties and minor maintenance works.
- Undertake basic repairs including painting, decorating, carpentry, plumbing and general property upkeep.
- Respond proactively to maintenance requests in a prompt and professional manner.
- Identify and report any larger repair or health and safety issues requiring specialist contractors.
- Ensure all works are completed to a high standard, in accordance with expected levels of competence and to health & safety requirements.
Property Support
- Conduct property inspections and report findings.
- Assist with property preparation between tenancies.
- Ensure communal areas and managed properties remain well presented and maintained.
- Support property managers with on-site visits and maintenance assessments.
Deliveries & Logistics
- Assist with furniture deliveries, removals and installations.
- Deliver and collect linen from properties as required.
- Transport cleaning staff to and from sites when necessary.
- Collect and deliver keys, equipment and supplies between properties and the office.
- Support the wider operations team with ad-hoc logistical requirements.
Requirements
Essential
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- Previous experience in a handyman, maintenance, facilities, construction or property-related role.
- Good practical skills across a range of maintenance disciplines.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Reliable, punctual and flexible approach to work.
Physical Requirements
- The role involves regular lifting, carrying and moving of furniture, equipment and supplies.
- Candidates must be physically capable of undertaking manual handling duties safely.
Desirable
- Experience working within residential block management, lettings or property management.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety and risk assessments.
- Trade qualifications or relevant maintenance certifications preferable.

Additional Amendments Included
- Use company systems and software, including Released and Microsoft programs, to record inspections, maintenance issues, completed works and job updates.
- Liaise with contractors attending managed properties and provide access where required.
- Previous experience in a handyman, maintenance, facilities, construction or property-related role, with the ability to carry out basic maintenance works independently.
- Competent using mobile technology and computer systems to manage jobs, emails and maintenance records.
- Occasional flexibility may be required to respond to urgent maintenance issues or operational requirements outside normal working hours.
