Full job description

Part-time Optical Assistant / Receptionist

We are seeking a friendly and motivated Optical Assistant to join our team at REG Bell Opticians in Cookstown. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, basic computer skills, and will work with professionalism which is rooted in care and integrity. As an Optical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing excellent service and support to our valued patients.

Key Responsibilities

Greet and assist patients with a warm, welcoming and supportive disposition.
Schedule appointments and manage patient records using basic computer systems and in compliance with privacy standards.
Assist patients in selecting and fitting glasses and overall optical needs.
General receptionist duties such as administrative tasks, answering phone calls, managing inventory, and processing payments.
General cleaning duties to ensure the practice is clean, organised, well-maintained and inviting.
Any other tasks deemed reasonable for the smooth running of the Practice.
Prior experience in an optical setting is a plus but not required, as full training will be provided.

Essential Criteria

Education: GCSE passes in English and Maths at grade C or above (or equivalent).
Communication: Demonstrable excellent communication skills, both speaking and written, and the ability to provide excellent patient service.
IT Skills: Demonstrable basic computer skills for booking appointments, data entry and record keeping.
Work ethic: Demonstrable ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team in a busy environment.

Desirable Criteria

Experience: Previous experience working in a public facing environment.
Flexibility: Willingness and ability to cover extra hours and/or staff holidays if required.
