Full job description

Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking a full-time IT & AV Support Specialist to join the Information Services team providing a high-quality, responsive support service to all University staff and students.

Our IT support specialists at Birkbeck deliver front-line support for the deployment, maintenance and use of all computers and classroom-based, audio-visual, equipment at the University. The team provides a high-quality, customer-focused service for all the students, academic and teaching staff in the Faculties, and professional services staff throughout the year.

As IT & AV Support Specialist, you must have a strong self-motivated approach, with the ability to work at pace, and the competence to deliver a first-time fix for our Birkbeck University users. The role is offered on a permanent, on-site contract, at £34,827 to £38,981 per year, full-time, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8am-4pm or 12.30pm to 8.30pm and other times and/or on weekends as required.

To succeed in this role, you should have significant previous experience of providing second-line support and working with specialist technical teams to provide solutions to our users, who are from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds and work in highly demanding environments.

Birkbeck will provide support and training on our IT systems, and development for you to build on and update your skills. However, a solid and demonstrable understanding of MS Windows and Networking (gained in a corporate environment) is essential.

The support of audio-visual equipment in a classroom environment and experience of working in higher education would also be an advantage.

This is a fully office-based role. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a collaborative, in-person environment. The successful candidate will be expected to work onsite every working day so please only apply if you are able to commit to this working arrangement.

Salary and benefits:
£34,827 rising to £38,981 per annum. Grade 5 on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated London Weighting Allowance.
