Overview
We are seeking a friendly and efficient Deli/Counter Assistant to join our team. This role involves providing excellent customer service, preparing food items, and maintaining high standards of food safety and cleanliness. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food, good organisational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in a restaurant or deli setting is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided. Duties
- Prepare and serve a variety of deli products, including cold cuts, cooking pies. Slicing and packing cooked meat
- Assist customers with their orders, offering suggestions and upselling products where appropriate
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the counter area, ensuring compliance with food safety standards
- Restock shelves and display units with fresh products throughout the shift
- Operate cash registers, handle transactions accurately, and provide excellent customer service
- Ensure all food items are stored correctly and adhere to health and safety regulations
- Assist in the preparation of food items during busy periods to ensure timely service
- Follow all hygiene protocols to maintain a clean working environment
Skills
- Experience in food preparation or working within a restaurant or deli environment is desirable
- Knowledge of food safety standards and procedures
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Basic maths skills for handling transactions and measuring ingredients
- Good communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail
- Kitchen or culinary experience is beneficial but not essential; willingness to learn is key
- Time management skills to ensure smooth operation during busy periods
- Upselling skills to enhance customer experience and increase sales
