Workshop Assistant - Metal Fabrication and Joinery (Part-Time)
Location: East Tilbury, Essex (RM18)
Starting rate: £16/hr | PAYE | Reviewed at 4 and 12 weeks on reliability and quality — with a clear path to move up as you take on more, including press brake work.
Hours: Part-time — guaranteed 24 hrs/week, flexible pattern, up to 30 when you want them | Permanent
About Us
At Atlanticbike we design and manufacture premium metal and timber structures for residential properties across London. We're a small, experienced team with high standards, a well-organised workshop, and a strong emphasis on doing things properly. Our work ends up on some of London's best streets.
We're after a reliable pair of hands to work alongside the fabrication team and keep the workshop moving — the finishing, assembly and prep that turn parts into finished products.
The Role
Day to day, you'd be:
- Driving the company vehicle — deliveries, collections, the occasional site run
- Cutting timber to length on the mitre saw
- Oiling and sanding timber to a clean finish
- Assembly work — fixing timber to metal panels, building up subcomponents and stock parts
- Helping mock up and assemble our larger structures in the workshop
- Learning to run the press brake — we'll train you, it's the same kit our fabricators use
The work is steady and hands-on, and there's genuinely enough of it every week.
The Hours
A part-time role with a guaranteed 24 hours a week — steady, reliable work that's genuinely there. Want more? You can take it up to around 30 hours whenever you fancy the hours; that part's your call. And if you need a lighter week now and then, we can flex down, with 16 hours as the minimum.
In return we ask one thing, straight: when we've got work booked that needs you on a particular day, we need you there — and we'll give you as much notice as we can. Genuine give and take: we flex around you, you flex around us when it counts. If that two-way arrangement suits you, it's a comfortable and reliable way to work.
What We're Looking For
You don't need a fabrication background — we'll teach you the workshop skills. What matters more:
- Reliable and turns up — this is the big one
- Careful, takes pride in a clean finish — the oiling and assembly punish rushing
- Practical and physically capable — good with your hands
- Full clean UK driving licence — you'll be driving our vehicle, so this one's essential
- Flexible and reachable — when we need you on a given day, you can make it there
- Happy learning new kit and taking direction
If you're a semi-retired tradesperson, building your own thing on the side, or just after steady, quality part-time work, this could suit you well.
What The Job Is Like
- Small, experienced team — you'll know every project you've touched
- Clean, organised workshop where things are done properly
- Real craft: the timber you finish and the assemblies you build end up on London's best streets — visible and credited
- Genuine room to grow — take on the press brake, more responsibility, more hours if you want them
