About the role

Hillingdon Council: Putting our residents first.

We are seeking an experienced Lawyer to join our highly regarded Commercial team in Legal Services on a fixed-term basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a varied and challenging caseload across the full breadth of contract, procurement and commercial/major project matters, supporting the delivery of key Council priorities and projects.

You will provide high-quality legal advice and support on a wide range of transactions and projects, including:

Major procurement exercises
Complex commercial contracts
Strategic regeneration and development projects
Construction and infrastructure schemes
Technology and transformation initiatives
Partnership and collaboration arrangements
Funding agreements
Contract, procurement and commercial-related advice to Council departments and stakeholders
Other high-profile projects that contribute to the delivery of the Council's corporate priorities

Working as part of a supportive and collaborative legal team, you will manage your own caseload while also assisting senior colleagues on complex, high-profile and strategically important matters.

About You

We are looking for a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive (or equivalent) with substantial experience in contract, procurement and commercial law.

You will have:

Excellent technical knowledge of contract, procurement and commercial law and practice
Significant experience handling a broad range of transactions and matters
Strong drafting, negotiation and advisory skills
The ability to manage a busy caseload and work effectively to competing deadlines
Experience of providing clear, practical and solution-focused legal advice
Excellent organisational and communication skills
A proactive and collaborative approach to working with clients and colleagues

Experience gained within a local authority legal team would be advantageous, although applications from candidates with relevant private practice or public sector experience are welcomed.
