Location: Exeter / Taunton Area (Covering Plymouth to Barnstaple to Taunton to Yeovil
Salary: £27,000 - £30,000 per annum (May be increased depending on skillsets / experience)
Bonus & Commission:
- Up to £1,200 annual bonus

The Role
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced IT Technician to join our growing education support team in the and Somerset Devon area. This is a field-based role (WFH), providing on-site IT support and project installations at schools throughout the Plymouth, Barnstaple, Taunton and Yeovil area .
As an IT Engineer you will deliver regular scheduled support to our education customers and some SME's. Due to the varied nature of the role, support will encompass aspects of 1st and 2nd line tasks, whilst being involved with projects works, both assisted and un-assisted. Predominantly based at our client sites and working from home outside of these times. You will be supported by our office based helpdesk team and third line engineers as and when needed.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting regular scheduled visits to schools and the odd business, providing IT support
- Responding to emergency call-outs as an when required to to both schools and businesses.
- Delivering and supporting IT projects within schools and businesses.
- Providing expert advice and technical support in person, remotely and over the telephone.
What You’ll Need
We’re looking for someone with strong technical skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to communicate clearly with non-technical users. Experience working in an educational environment or for an education based MSP such as Computeam or ICT4 would be beneficial.
When interacting with our customers you will become an extension of their team, delivering consistently high-quality support for a mixture of Cloud technologies, Windows, Google and Apple desktop OS, along with Windows Server OS. Be familiar with mobile devices such as iPads, Chromebooks and Windows Server OS.
You'll be experienced and confident with the latest technologies, will possess excellent troubleshooting skills and demonstrate exemplary communication skills with users of all abilities and backgrounds. We need a natural problem solver, with a thorough knowledge of Windows operating systems, iOS, MDM, Google, management of Active Directory, Office 365 and Azure, Group Policy, Intune, SharePoint, networking concepts and associated hardware.
Deliver and assist with the delivery of wide range of project works, from installing a laptop or new WiFi system to hybrid server/cloud deployment / migration.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Previous experience in an IT support role within a school or educational MSP setting or business MSP.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, plus a good telephone manner
- Ability to work independently and manage your own workload
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
- Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS and safeguarding check
Technical Experience (any of the following beneficial):
- Some experience of Network Administration & Management (VPNs, VLANs, Ubiquiti, Ruckus, WiFi, Firewalls, Switches)
- Awareness of virtualisation technologies (VMWare, Hyper-V)
- Microsoft SCCM, PowerShell scripting
- Microsoft 365, Azure, Intune, SharePoint, Teams
- JAMF or other Apple MDM solutions
- Google Workspace, Chromebooks, Google Classroom (not essential but a bonus)
On-Site Tasks
- Visit schools and businesses as part of our scheduled SLA visits.
- Attend site for emergency callouts as authorised by the Field Services Manager.
- Manage your schedule of visits to ensure customers get a responsive, effective on-site service
- Regularly check-in with the key customer contacts, ensuring you are contactable and approachable, building trust and confidence in our expertise and service.
- Work with your schools to highlight the value of additional services that Soltech IT can provide.
- Conduct on-site installations where required and covered by contract or project works.
Remote Tasks (outside of on-site time)
- Offer remote break/fix support for issues relating to all customers, raised via the phone/email/ticket/internal referral.
- Be the primary point of contact for your allocated customers, referring to other members of the wider Soltech IT team where required.
- Provide configuration changes (where covered by contract or project related works) and liaise with third party teams on behalf of your customers.
- Update and keep current your notes and actions on incidents and change requests assigned to you in the Soltech IT Helpdesk system and related documentation repositories.
- Monitor remote monitoring tools to proactively identify issues.
- Regularly check backup systems for compliance – raising and dealing with issues once identified.
- Patch and otherwise maintain your customers’ infrastructure, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption.
