Have you recently completed your A levels and are looking to begin a career in the legal sector without taking the university route? This could be an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience and develop your legal knowledge while working within a supportive conveyancing team.

We are looking for a Legal Assistant to join our Conveyancing Department in Wickham.

This is a varied, client-facing role supporting our fee earners with residential conveyancing matters. You will assist with the day-to-day progression of transactions, communicate with clients and other parties, prepare legal documentation and provide general administrative support to the department.

Formal legal qualifications and previous legal experience are not required, as training will be provided.

The role

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Supporting fee earners with a varied residential conveyancing caseload
Opening new files and completing initial client onboarding
Obtaining identification documents and carrying out relevant compliance checks
Preparing and issuing contract documentation
Ordering searches and reviewing returned documentation as required
Drafting standard conveyancing correspondence and legal forms
Requesting redemption statements and mortgage documentation
Liaising with clients, estate agents, lenders, solicitors and other parties
Providing clients with regular updates on the progress of their transactions
Assisting with exchange of contracts and completion arrangements
Assisting with the preparation and submission of Land Registry and Stamp Duty documentation
Dealing with post-completion matters
Recording time spent on fee-earning and other tasks
Completing relevant departmental forms
Keeping accurate hard-copy and electronic records
Keeping up to date with relevant changes in legislation and government regulations
Attending department meetings and undertaking relevant training
Assisting and supporting other members of the team where necessary
Providing reception cover when required
Complying with the firm’s procedures, Office Manual and relevant Law Society, CQS and Lexcel standards

About you

We’re looking for someone who:

Has experience working within a legal or conveyancing environment (desirable)
Is confident and professional when dealing with clients
Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
Is organised and able to manage several priorities at once
Has good attention to detail and produces accurate work
Is comfortable preparing legal correspondence and documentation
Has good IT and typing skills
Is comfortable working in a busy, deadline-driven environment
Can work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Is reliable, professional and approachable

About the firm

Andrew & Andrew Solicitors is an established law firm with offices in Portsmouth, Emsworth and Wickham. We provide a range of legal services and pride ourselves on providing a professional and approachable service to our clients.

Working hours: 8.30am to 5pm (1 hour for lunch)

Work Location: In person (office only – no hybrid)

Pay: From £28,000.00 per year
