About the role

Moorepay is building a Platform for Workforce Operations - a single system on which Payroll, HR and Workforce Management run on one data model, one workflow engine and one experience. Payroll and HR are the first capabilities on that foundation. Workforce Management (“WFM”) is the next - and we’re hiring the person who will own its vision, strategy and roadmap ahead of the build phase.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a strategic capability from first principles: the commercial thinking, the customer problems, the product direction, and the roadmap that a dedicated delivery team will build against. It is the kind of product work most people only get to read about.

The Opportunity

We run an AI-first product and engineering operating model. Product strategy is set at the top and delivered by small, autonomous, cross-functional AI Pods - Engineering, QA, UX and Product - each accountable for measurable outcomes rather than feature output.

As the Managing Principal Product Manager for WFM, you own the strategic layer. You are accountable for the vision, the commercial case, the requirements and the roadmap, rather than the mechanics of delivery. Your job is to undertake the discovery and market analysis, decide what gets built and why it matters; the pods turn your prioritised workstreams into a working product. The clarity of your strategy and your briefs will be critical to our success.

WFM covers the operational rhythm of the workforce - scheduling, time and attendance, and absence - for the manufacturing, logistics, retail and professional-services employers Moorepay serves, many of them running mobile, shift-based and deskless teams. It is the capability that extends the platform from managing people to running workforce operations in the fullest sense.

Key Responsibilities

Own the WFM strategy - Define the product strategy and narrative for WFM: the market context, the customer problems, the product vision and the strategic direction for the capability.
Own the commercial case - Build and defend the commercial rationale, value proposition and business case for WFM. Understand the mid-market buyer, the competitive landscape, and where the value is - and let that shape the roadmap.
Set outcome-based OKRs - Work with the Chief Product Officer to translate the strategy into measurable outcome commitments anchored to strategic themes, not feature lists.
Own and sequence the roadmap - Order WFM workstreams by value and sequencing logic and match them to pods. The prioritised backlog is your primary control mechanism - pods pull from it; they do not define it.
Scope workstreams for delivery - Author the workstream briefs that hand work to the pods: what is being delivered, what is in and out of scope, the target outcome, and the open questions. Delivery sits with the pod; the precision of the brief is yours.
Curate the WFM domain knowledge - Maintain the living domain and capability context for WFM, keeping it current and accurate as the platform evolves, in partnership with the Architect and engineering.
Get deep on the customer - Engage directly with existing and potential customers to build an empathetic, evidence-based understanding of their workforce-management needs, pains and strategy.
Work across domain boundaries - Partner with the Payroll, HR and Platform product managers so that WFM joins the platform cleanly - shared data model, cross-domain workflows, no fragmentation.
Close the learning loop - Use outcome validation and structured learning to feed what the platform learns back into your strategy, roadmap and requirements, so your thinking compounds over time.

Skills & experience

Substantial product management experience, including several years owning product strategy and roadmap for a SaaS product at a senior or principal level.
Domain experience in WFM - scheduling, time and attendance, absence - or adjacent workforce-operations software.
A genuinely commercial mindset - fluent in business and commercial metrics, value propositions and pricing thinking, and able to build and defend a business case.
A proven ability to set product strategy and translate it into a prioritised, outcome-driven roadmap.
Exceptional written precision - you can express outcomes, requirements and acceptance criteria that leave no room for ambiguity. In our model, well-specified requirements feed an AI-assisted build process directly.
Genuine curiosity about AI-assisted product development and a willingness to work at the frontier of how software gets specified and built.
Strong stakeholder and customer instincts - a confident communicator who can bridge commercial, technical and customer perspectives and adapt to the audience in front of you.
Comfortable in a fast-moving environment where the right answer is not always obvious and the process is still being refined.
Knowledge of HR, payroll or wider HCM software, either as a product practitioner or from working closely with these domains.
Experience of product areas with UK employment-compliance sensitivity.
Experience with AI-assisted development tooling and structured specification approaches beyond traditional user stories.
Platform product thinking - experience building a capability on a shared platform rather than a standalone point solution.
Familiarity with OKR-based planning and outcome-driven roadmaps.
