We are looking for a Principal Materials Engineer who can take technical ownership of material selection, testing and performance across complex industrial projects. You will guide engineering decisions, solve material related challenges and help ensure that every system we specify is safe, durable and commercially viable.
You will work closely with project managers, structural engineers, commercial teams, suppliers and clients. This is a senior technical position with influence across project delivery, quality standards and long term product development.

Key Responsibilities:
Materials Engineering Leadership:
Provide senior technical guidance on the selection, specification and application of construction and industrial materials.
Material Evaluation:
Assess concrete systems, coatings, resins, composites, metals and other specialist materials for suitability, durability and performance.
Testing and Analysis:
Review laboratory results, site testing data, failure reports and technical documentation to identify risks and recommend corrective action.
Technical Specifications:
Prepare and review material specifications, technical reports, method statements and engineering recommendations.
Project Support:
Work with project teams during design, procurement, installation and post completion review stages.
Failure Investigation:
Lead investigations into material deterioration, coating failure, cracking, corrosion and other performance related issues.
Supplier Management:
Evaluate supplier technical data, product certifications, test reports and compliance documentation.
Quality and Compliance:
Ensure materials and systems comply with relevant British Standards, industry guidance, client requirements and project specifications.
Client Engagement:
Present technical recommendations to clients, consultants and contractors in a clear and commercially practical manner.
Team Development:
Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, review engineering work and support the development of consistent technical standards across the business.
What We Are Looking For:
Experience:
At least 7 years of experience in materials engineering, construction materials, civil engineering, structural materials or a closely related technical field.
Technical Background:
Strong knowledge of concrete, coatings, polymers, composites, corrosion protection, repair materials or industrial flooring systems.
Qualifications:
A degree in Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Chemistry or another relevant engineering discipline.
Professional Status:
Chartered Engineer status or progress toward professional registration is desirable.
Industry Knowledge:
A practical understanding of material testing, failure analysis, quality assurance and technical compliance within construction or industrial environments.
Communication Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical matters to clients, project teams and non technical stakeholders.
Leadership:
Experience mentoring engineers, reviewing technical work or leading specialist engineering activities.
Mindset:
You are analytical, practical and commercially aware. You understand that the best engineering solution must balance performance, safety, cost and project delivery requirements.
Pay: £3,437.00-£4,040.00 per month
