Job Overview

The Care Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality, person-centred care and support to residents, ensuring their dignity, independence and wellbeing are maintained at all times.

The post holder will work closely with the Senior Care Assistant and management team to deliver compassionate care in accordance with individual care plans, organisational policies and regulatory standards.

All duties must be carried out in line with the care home's policies, procedures and the standards expected by regulators in England.

The post holder is expected to undertake mandatory training, supervisions, competency assessments and ongoing professional development to maintain competence and compliance.

The Care Assistant will report to the Director of Operations and Compliance, the Home Manager and the Deputy Manager.

Roles and Responsibilities

Provide high-quality personal care and support in accordance with individual care plans, preferences, risk assessments and assessed needs.
Support residents with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, dressing, mobility, continence care, nutrition and hydration, while preserving dignity and independence.
Build positive relationships with residents, promoting choice, respect and emotional wellbeing.
Support residents to participate in meaningful activities and encourage social engagement where appropriate.
Observe, monitor and report any changes in residents' physical health, mental wellbeing or behaviour to the Senior Care Assistant or management team promptly.
Assist with medication where trained, competent and authorised, following organisational policy and legal requirements.
Maintain accurate, timely and legible care records, including daily notes and other required documentation.
Communicate effectively with residents, relatives, colleagues and visiting healthcare professionals to promote continuity of care.
Respond appropriately to accidents, incidents, emergencies or safeguarding concerns, reporting these immediately in accordance with the home's procedures. This includes abuse, neglect, discrimination or unsafe practice.
Assist with housekeeping duties where required to maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for residents.
Work cooperatively with colleagues to ensure high standards of care are maintained throughout each shift.
Attend handovers and contribute relevant information to support safe and effective care delivery.
Follow infection prevention and control procedures, moving and handling guidance, food hygiene requirements and health and safety policies at all times.
Maintain professional standards of conduct, appearance and behaviour at all times.

Essential Skills and Qualities

Reliable with good time management and organisational skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to use initiative while recognising when to seek support.
Understanding of person-centred care, dignity, safeguarding, confidentiality, equality and diversity, infection control and health and safety.
Flexible approach to working shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

Previous experience in a care home, residential care or adult social care setting
A genuine interest in supporting older people or vulnerable adults
Willingness to undertake all mandatory training and continuous professional development

Desirable:

A Level 2 Diploma or NVQ in Health and Social Care (or a willingness to work towards one)
Experience supporting older people living with dementia
Training in moving and handling, safeguarding, dementia care or end-of-life care
Experience assisting with medication (where applicable)

Pay: £12.82-£13.02 per hour
