Experienced Builder / Carpenter – Progression to Site Lead

We’re a growing garden room company working across Kent, Sussex and the South East, and we’re looking for an experienced, multi-skilled builder or carpenter to join our team.
This is primarily a hands-on building role, so we’re looking for someone who is genuinely good on the tools. However, for the right person there is a clear opportunity to progress into running your own sites and eventually managing a small build team.
Our garden rooms are high-quality residential builds, so attention to detail is extremely important. The work covers a broad range of construction rather than one individual trade.
The role
You’ll be involved in most stages of a garden room build, including:
- Timber construction and carpentry
- SIPs and timber framing
- First and second fix carpentry
- Roofing
- Cladding
- Flooring
- Installing windows and doors
- Internal finishing
- General building work
- Reading drawings and working accurately to dimensions
As you progress, we’d like the right person to take more responsibility for:
- Running individual sites
- Organising the build programme
- Leading one or two other members of the team
- Making sure materials and deliveries are organised
- Solving problems on site
- Maintaining build quality
- Communicating professionally with customers
Who we’re looking for
We’re fairly open-minded about your exact background.
You could currently be a carpenter, multi-trader, general builder, lead carpenter, working foreman or someone who has worked on extensions, lofts, timber-frame buildings or high-end residential projects.
More important to us is that you:
- Have strong all-round building skills
- Have particularly good carpentry skills
- Take pride in the quality of your work
- Have very good attention to detail
- Can work independently and solve problems
- Are reliable and organised
- Work at a good pace without sacrificing quality
- Are comfortable taking responsibility
- Communicate well with customers and other trades
- Have the potential and ambition to lead a small team
You do not need to already be a site manager.
In fact, we’re particularly interested in experienced tradespeople who are still happy working on the tools but would like the opportunity to take on more responsibility and eventually run their own sites.

Requirements
- Good general construction experience
- Strong carpentry/building ability
- Own transport
- Own basic tools
- Able to travel to sites across Kent, Sussex and surrounding areas
- Professional and reliable
