Location Portsmouth area (officially office based but welcome to work hybrid/remote with regular local community based meetings and local travel)

Context
Free to Fly exists to break cycles of abuse for future generations, by raising awareness and educating people about abuse, and by specifically supporting expectant mothers in their journey into freedom from domestic abuse. The charity supports mums-to-be to leave abusive relationships and create safe, stable futures for themselves and their children through compassionate, person-centred practical and emotional support. We are a Christian-ethos charity rooted in partnership, community engagement, and deep respect for the dignity of survivors.
Purpose of the role
We are looking for a dynamic, experienced fundraising professional who’s interested in part-time work with stable weekly hours but the willingness to work these flexibly across the month if needed, to lead income generation for Free to Fly. While you will not be leading operations, you will drive the development of a volunteer team and sustainable income streams that enable our work to continue and grow.
This role is ideal for a strong communicator, with demonstrable fundraising success, leadership skills, excellent networks and confidence in cultivating income through diverse sources — especially within Portsmouth and surrounding areas.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising strategy & development
- Support the Chair, trustees and leadership to refine the fundraising strategy and annual income targets.
- Identify, pursue, and secure funding opportunities from churches, community organisations, local businesses, trusts, individuals and other sources.
Network engagement & relationship building
- Maintain and grow a network of supporters, particularly local community leaders, churches, corporate partners and philanthropists.
- Confidently represent Free to Fly in meetings and presentations, articulating the mission and impact clearly and compellingly.
Application, reporting & stewardship
- Support the Board to prepare compelling funding applications, proposals and supporting materials.
- Ensure excellent stewarding of existing donors, including liaising with the Project Operations Manager to ensure impact can be reported regularly.
- Ensure that reporting to funders and maintaining relationships is completed in a timely fashion and build strong relationships with funders on behalf of the charity.
Contribution to volunteer development
- Promote volunteering opportunities while fundraising where required; work with Project Ops Manager to strengthen volunteer base generally
- Recruit fundraising volunteers and lead the volunteer fundraising team with support from the OPs Manager and Trustees where relevant
Person SpecificationEssential
- Significant experience in fundraising, with a track record of meeting income targets.
- Strong networking skills and strong networks already built within Portsmouth - or demonstrated capacity to build networks quickly.
- Excellent written communication, verbal communication, and confident writing compelling stories that motivate giving.
- Comfortable speaking to groups including churches and congregations, and presenting the charity’s work with confidence.
- Willing to represent the charity at events and potentially be a spokesperson for the charity for media relations, if required
- Self-motivated, organised, and outcome-oriented.
- Strong people person
- Experience with fundraising CRM/donor database systems
- Confident in the use of technology including Microsoft Office systems.
Desirable
- Existing links to local churches and Christian organisations.
- Experience raising funds using a breadth of different strategies - from B2B businesses as well as individuals, organisations/groups, trusts etc.
- Creative approach to fundraising and ability to see unique opportunities that others may not see.
