Avenues is proud to be part of The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism.
Do you have a learning disability or/and are autistic?
Do you want to improve how others experience healthcare?
If the answer is yes to both, we would love to hear from you!
Join us as an Expert with Lived Experience Trainer to deliver learning disability training to people who work in Health and Social Care including the NHS, GPs and Dentists.
We are looking for people who are able to travel to local training venues. Travel expenses will be paid for and you will join us on a zero hour contract which means you will work flexibly and are able to complete working hours as offered but usually 3.5 hours a day up to 3 times per week.
The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is named after Oliver McGowan, whose death highlighted the need for health and social care staff to have better skills, knowledge and understanding of the needs for autistic people and those with a learning disability.
This is an amazing opportunity to influence how care is delivered by providing Health and Social Care staff with the knowledge and skills they need to make a difference.
The training will be delivered face to face and each session will be run by a trio of experts including a facilitator and two trainers. These trainers will be autistic individuals or people with learning disabilities, ensuring that the training benefits from their lived experiences.
You will receive three days of training (if required) to carry out and develop the skills to be successful in this role, we will support you to be confident in talking to a group of people.
Our organisation is committed to helping people with a learning disability and autistic people to carry out their work and your role can be adjusted to suit your abilities.

What are we looking for?
Have lived experience of having a learning disability.
Be confident talking in front of people to deliver good training.
Be interested in delivering training to health and social care staff.
Have an understanding of what confidentiality means.
Show good training communication skills.
Ability to attend training days.
Ability to travel to the venue to deliver training.
Learn what you need to do to deliver the training.
Be organised for the work you do.
Manage your time and your work.
Have a place within a team and support others within your team.
Keep motivated.
Work alongside a range of people.
Communicate difficult things in a positive way.
Be professional.
Pay attention to detail.
