At Teknek, a wholly owned subsidiary of Illinois Tool Works (NYSE: ITW), we design, develop and manufacture the world’s leading contact cleaning machines that ensure products ranging from currency to passports and smart phones to space vehicles can be manufactured reliably, without waste across the planet.
To stay at the forefront of the contamination removal industry we are embarking on a program of redesign, reinvention, and scientific advancement of all our machines and proprietary cleaning rollers.
To do this we will be embracing and leading development of new cleaning machines that:
1. Can detect and remove ever smaller particle contaminates even more reliably across a wider range of materials, forms, and operating environments.
2. Integrate within smart ‘Industry 4.0’ factories to leverage the benefits of remote control and data sharing
3. Use predictive diagnostics to automate more operations, minimise machine downtime, and optimise cleaning performance.
4. Utilise the latest manufacturing methods and digital interface technology so our products lead the market not just on performance and reliability, but on holistic user experience.
The role:
We have an opportunity for a newly or recently graduated (0-2 years experience) engineering student to join us in performing hands-on new product development, and sustaining engineering activities on our range of market leading electromechanical contact cleaning machines.
The junior mechanical engineer would work alongside our technical staff in the design office, mentored by a senior mechanical engineer, and working closely with our on-site electronic, software, and production engineers. We manufacture on-site; and develop new products in-house using our own prototyping equipment and workshops. The team is of a size small enough that individual contributions are meaningful, and the successful candidate will be encouraged to challenge themselves by exploring topics that are unfamiliar to them, and to implement and share their newly acquired knowledge with the team. This role is full time on-site, based close to Glasgow airport.
As this is an entry level position, we are not expecting previous industrial experience, however the ideal candidate would have a passion for ‘making’ and engineering outside of work/university, and through this have gained some real-world prototyping knowhow. Ultimately however, the most important attribute is the personality to thrive within an environment where projects are shared among numerous technical disciplines and departments with competing priorities, and to do so with care, understanding, a cool head, and a passion to innovate the best products for our customers.
We are deeply committed to the continual professional development of our team members, and to providing the opportunities and training appropriate wherever possible to broaden and deepen their skills in the areas required to reach their professional goals. With several of our team members already holding professional certification, or in the process of working towards incorporated or chartered engineer status, we can provide guidance, support and a breadth of opportunities to develop the necessary competencies for those seeking to take this journey.
