Overview
We are seeking a motivated Trainee Bench Joiner/Cabinet Maker to join our workshop team. This entry-level position offers valuable hands-on experience in bespoke furniture and cabinetry production. The role is ideal for individuals interested in developing skills within the joinery and carpentry trades, with opportunities for professional growth. The successful candidate will be involved in various aspects of fabrication, assembly, and finishing, working under the guidance of experienced craftsmen. This paid position provides a practical pathway into the woodworking industry, fostering both technical expertise and industry knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with the fabrication of bespoke furniture and cabinetry using hand tools and power tools
- Supporting assembly processes to ensure precise fitting and finishing of components
- Learning to operate various woodworking machinery safely and efficiently
- Assisting with the measurement, marking, and cutting of timber and other materials according to specifications
- Participating in site preparation tasks, including basic roofing, plumbing, or masonry work as required
- Supporting the team with heavy lifting and material handling to ensure smooth workflow
- Maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment to uphold safety standards
- Gaining experience in construction painting and other finishing techniques as part of project completion
Qualifications
- Interest in carpentry, joinery, or woodworking trades with a keen willingness to learn new skills
- Basic understanding of hand tools and power tools used in carpentry or construction (nice-to-have)
- Physical fitness to perform heavy lifting and stand for extended periods during shifts
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work safely around machinery and adhere to health & safety regulations
- Previous experience or knowledge in fabrication, masonry, electrical work, roofing, plumbing, or construction painting is advantageous but not essential
- A proactive attitude with excellent teamwork skills and a strong work ethic
