Summary
We are looking for a reliable, hardworking Workshop/Fabrication Assistant to join our busy manufacturing team. This is a hands-on role supporting the production of high-quality interior products made from iron and brass in a structured workshop environment. The working pattern is Monday to Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, with overtime opportunities available on Fridays.
The position is available for an immediate start following an interview for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- Assist with measuring, marking out, cutting, and preparing mild steel materials
- Read and interpret basic fabrication drawings and dimensions
- Operate workshop tools and machinery such as grinders, drills, saws, and cutting equipment
- Assist with MIG/MAG welding and tack welding under supervision
- Prepare steel surfaces by cleaning, grinding, and removing rust, scale, or weld spatter
- Fit and position components accurately before welding
- Use hand and power tools safely and correctly
- Check finished work for accurate dimensions, alignment, and quality
- Assist with loading, moving, and positioning steel materials using appropriate lifting equipment
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working area
- Follow health and safety procedures, including correct use of PPE
- Carry out basic maintenance and checks on tools and equipment
- Support experienced fabricators with general workshop and fabrication tasks
- Identify damaged materials, faulty equipment, or quality issues and report them to a supervisor
- Help prepare completed fabricated items for painting, coating, or installation
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment
(or similar hands-on roles such as construction or building sites)
- ttention to detail – ensuring measurements, dimensions, alignment, and finished work are accurate
- Teamwork – working effectively with experienced fabricators, welders, supervisors, and other team members
- Communication – listening to instructions and communicating clearly about materials, tasks, and problems
- Willingness to learn – developing fabrication, welding, and machinery skills under supervision
- Reliability – turning up on time, completing assigned tasks, and being dependable in a workshop environment
- Health and safety awareness – taking responsibility for safe working practices and following procedures
- Problem-solving – identifying issues with materials, equipment, measurements, or finished work and helping find solutions
