About Herts PPS
Herts PPS is a growing property maintenance company providing heating, plumbing, electrical and multi-trade services to some of London's leading managing agents, property companies and high-end residential clients.
Our reputation has been built on delivering exceptional customer service, technical expertise and a proactive approach to property maintenance. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Operations Manager to become a key member of our leadership team.
This role is ideal for an experienced Gas Engineer, Heating Engineer or Senior Plumbing Engineer who is looking to step away from the tools and into a management position, whilst still using their technical knowledge every day.
The Role
As Operations Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day running of our engineering team whilst supporting our office staff to ensure every job is delivered professionally, efficiently and to the highest possible standard.
Working closely with the Managing Director, you will be responsible for ensuring engineers and office staff are supported, clients receive outstanding service and operational issues are resolved quickly and effectively.
This is a predominantly home-based position, with occasional travel to client meetings, engineer site visits and office visits where required.
Whilst the core working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 6:00pm, this is a management position and there will be occasions where flexibility is required. You will be expected to assist with urgent operational issues outside of normal working hours where necessary to ensure our clients continue to receive an exceptional level of service.
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-day management and support of our field engineers.
- Provide technical guidance to engineers and office staff.
- Review engineer reports and prepare quotations before issuing them to clients.
- Liaise directly with clients regarding ongoing works, technical queries and project updates.
- Resolve customer queries and complaints professionally and efficiently.
- Monitor engineer performance, productivity and quality of workmanship.
- Ensure office staff and engineers are following company procedures and delivering excellent customer service.
- Work closely with the planning team to ensure engineers are utilised effectively.
- Manage, review and upload health and safety documentation, including RAMS, risk assessments and associated compliance documentation.
- Ensure engineers are working in accordance with company health and safety procedures and client requirements.
- Identify operational issues before they become problems and implement practical solutions.
- Report operational concerns, trends and recommendations directly to the Managing Director.
- Carry out quality control checks and help reduce repeat visits and call-backs.
- Support the continued growth and development of the business through strong leadership and organisation.
About You
We are looking for someone with a strong technical background who understands the realities of working in the property maintenance industry.
The ideal candidate will have previously worked as a Gas Engineer or Heating Engineer and possess a broad understanding of domestic plumbing, heating systems and general property maintenance. Knowledge of electrical and multi-trade works would be highly advantageous.
Most importantly, you'll be a natural problem solver with excellent organisational skills, strong communication skills and the confidence to make decisions under pressure. You will take ownership of situations, lead by example and understand that, whilst work-life balance is important, there will occasionally be a need to respond to urgent operational issues outside of core working hours.
