You and Your Role
You’ll be joining an ambitious company with big plans for growth. To support this growth, we’re now looking to recruit a stone saw operator.
The role’s focus will be using a stone saw to produce slate and granite walling stones, a premium building material used throughout Devon & Cornwall. Your work will help build beautiful new homes and restore heritage buildings. Training will be provided on how to deliver the high standard of quality required.
In time, the role will also include working on other quarry processes and the use and maintenance of different plant machinery. For this reason, any mechanical experience would be an advantage, but is not necessary. The role can provide opportunities for the successful candidate to try a variety of different tasks within the quarry, providing experience useful for progressing a career in quarrying or the wider construction industry.
What we’re looking for
A methodical person who takes pride in their work would suit the role well.
As a working quarry, most work will be outdoors and in all weather conditions, so physical fitness and a good work ethic are essential.
We are looking for someone both punctual and reliable to join an established friendly team. Being a team player is very important, but you must be sensible and safety conscious to be trusted to work alone as well. The ideal candidate will be capable of handling responsibility.
No related qualifications are necessary. Previous quarry or experience in similar industries would be an advantage, but a willingness to learn new skills is more important.
Job Description
Role Title: Cut stone saw operator and general quarry worker
Wage: Starting at £13 per hour - increasing after a period of 12 months
Hours: 40 hours per week, 08:00 to 16:30 (2 x half hour breaks per day)
Responsible to: Quarry Manager, General Manager
Location: Lantoom Quarry, Dobwalls, Liskeard, PL14 4LR (reliable transport is essential)
All required PPE and clothing is issued upon starting this role
Main purpose of the role:
· Operate the cut stone saw producing various Lantoom and Caradon products (Training will be provided)
· Overseeing a variety of other quarry related tasks, including other production using a variety of machinery and equipment
· Hand selecting stone on a picking station
· Operate quarry plant machinery/ vehicles
· Support team members
