Job Purpose:
To take ownership of learning and development across Almond Care Providers by coordinating, delivering and monitoring staff training. The Learning and Development Coordinator will ensure staff have the knowledge, skills and competence required to provide safe, effective, compassionate, and person-centred support.
Key responsibilities
Overall, the Learning and Development Coordinator will be expected to work alongside the Registered Manager, Operations Director, Project Managers and staff teams to:
Take ownership of the organisation’s training matrix, mandatory training programme and staff development records.
- Plan, coordinate and deliver mandatory training across Almond Care Providers services.
- Deliver specialist training where qualified and competent, including diabetes, epilepsy and buccal midazolam.
- Deliver Basic Life Support or Emergency First Aid at Work, where appropriately qualified.
- Deliver autism training that promotes understanding, reasonable adjustments, communication support and person-centred practice.
- Assess staff competency following training and identify further learning needs.
- Coordinate external trainers where specialist qualifications or external sign-off are required.
- Produce training compliance reports and support managers to maintain safe and effective staffing competence.
KEY DUTIES: Learning and Development Management
- To maintain and monitor the organisational training matrix.
- To schedule mandatory and refresher training across all services.
- To ensure staff complete required training within expected timescales.
- To identify gaps in training compliance and escalate concerns to managers.
- To maintain accurate training records, certificates, and competency evidence.
- To produce regular training compliance reports for the management team.
Mandatory Training Delivery
- To deliver mandatory training required for health and social care staff, within own competence and qualifications.
- To deliver or coordinate safeguarding, medication, health and safety, fire safety, infection prevention and control, food hygiene, moving and handling, record keeping, equality and diversity, Mental Capacity Act and DoLS, and professional boundaries training.
- To ensure training content reflects Almond Care policies, procedures and service expectations.
- To evaluate the effectiveness of training and update materials when practice, policy, or guidance changes.
- To coordinate external training where the subject requires additional specialist approval, external accreditation, or clinical oversight.
Specialist Health Training
- To deliver diabetes awareness and diabetes management training where qualified and competent to do so.
- To deliver epilepsy awareness training and buccal midazolam administration training where qualified and competent to do so.
- To complete or coordinate staff competency assessments following diabetes, epilepsy and buccal midazolam training.
- To ensure staff understand when to follow individual care plans, medication protocols and emergency guidance.
- To maintain own competency, CPD and evidence required to deliver specialist health-related training.
First Aid and Basic Life Support
- To deliver Basic Life Support or Emergency First Aid at Work where appropriately qualified.
- To ensure first aid training records and refresher dates are monitored through the training matrix.
- To ensure staff understand emergency response expectations within the supported living environment.
- To coordinate external first aid training where required.
Autism, Learning Disability and Person-Centred Practice Training
- To deliver autism training that includes autism understanding, neurodiversity, communication differences, sensory needs, and reasonable adjustments.
- To include practical guidance on reducing distress, supporting routines, understanding behaviour as communication, and adapting environments.
- To deliver learning disability awareness training that promotes dignity, inclusion, choice, and person-centred support.
- To ensure autism and learning disability training supports staff to provide respectful, compassionate, and non-judgemental care.
Induction, Competency and Workforce Development
- To support the delivery and ongoing improvement of the staff induction programme.
- To assess staff understanding and competency following training.
- To work with managers to identify individual and team learning needs.
- To support probation, supervision, and appraisal processes by providing training information when requested.
- To develop learning pathways that support staff progression and quality improvement.
Role Boundaries and Joint Working with PBS Practitioner
- To retain ownership of mandatory training, training compliance, and general staff development.
- To liaise with the PBS Practitioner where PBS themes need to be reflected in training materials.
- To support PBS-related learning in partnership with the PBS Practitioner, while the PBS Practitioner retains ownership of PBS assessments, PBS plans and behaviour analysis.
PERSON SPECIFICATION: Essential
- Experience delivering training within health and social care.
- Training qualifications such as Level 3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent experience.
- Ability to manage a training matrix and monitor compliance.
- Knowledge of CQC expectations and mandatory training requirements in adult social care.
- Ability to deliver engaging, practical, and accessible training to staff with different learning needs.
- Ability to assess staff competency and provide clear feedback.
- Strong organisation, record keeping and communication skills.
Desirable
- Moving and Handling Trainer qualifications.
- First Aid Instructor qualification, Basic Life Support trainer status or EFAW trainer competence.
- Recognised competence or qualification to deliver diabetes training.
- Recognised competence or qualification to deliver epilepsy and buccal midazolam training.
- Experience developing blended learning, e-learning, or practical workshops.
- Experience working with adults with learning disabilities, autism, or complex needs.
Other Requirements
- To understand and adhere to Almond Care Providers policies and procedures.
- To maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times.
- To keep own trainer qualifications, CPD and competence up to date.
- To undertake all reasonable duties within the context of the role as requested by the Registered Manager or senior management team.To work across Almond Care Providers services as required.
