Job summary

The Department for Business and Trade exists to drive economic growth, supporting businesses to invest, export and grow, helping to create high-quality jobs and opportunities across the UK. The Department employs over 7,000 people, based across the UK and in over 80 countries worldwide. To help support the delivery of our priorities we are looking for an inspiring G7 as the Scale-ups Delivery and Programmes Lead. This role is cross-cutting, responsible for several key projects within the Scale-Up portfolio, leading on priority workstreams in the scale-ups team. We are looking for a driven, innovative G7 who can work with Whitehall and with private sector partners to launch new initiatives to find and support emerging strategic scale-up companies.

Job description

They will work with delivery partners to continuously improve and evolve the offer, taking into account the underpinning strategy to support scale-ups. They will use our emerging Companies of the Future strategy, working with analysts, DSIT and HMT to ensure DBT pivots support to the highest growth businesses.

They will work with analysts and stakeholders to iterate the Companies of the Future approach and run a clear monitoring and evaluation framework to measure outputs of the Scale-ups advice support service.
The post holder will also be responsible for the development of the digital offer for Scale-Ups, working with relevant colleagues across Comms and Marketing, Small Business Growth, Ddat, and other identified stakeholders
The post holder will need to make informed judgements about what is achievable and how to use the levers available them to deliver the best policy and delivery outcomes. This includes engaging with Ministers, key stakeholders and senior officials across Whitehall. All with the full support of the line manager.
They will lead on any future business planning proposals emerging from new policy ideas and budget.
The post will contribute to and support establishing DBT as the voice of the Scale-ups and develop a strategic approach to identifying key enablers and blockers.
Specific line management responsibilities for this postholder are yet to be confirmed and the post holder will help to scope and build the team.
The postholder will work with the G6 to set their own strategy and delivery plan, with appropriate performance milestones and metrics, and monitoring and evaluation plan.

Strong skills across project management, delivery of complex projects and oversight of complex contracts.
Excellent experience of cross departmental/ organisational working, especially in uncertain and fast-moving policy areas.
Excellent communication skills and strong experience with engaging with senior stakeholders.
Have a strong knowledge and skills across business analysis
Strong leadership skills, identifying strategic opportunities and drive necessary change.

Desirable criteria

Experience of working with businesses.
