UOE Tech Hub
Our Tech Hub is a shop-in-shop experience for our customers. Positioned In our UOE retail store and post office, this role will run the device fixing counter attending to our customers tech needs.
Role Purpose
This role is the customer facing day-to-day engine of the technician bench. As a Technician you will greet customers, understand their issues and fix devices fast and to a high standard, with the aim to get their tech working again the same day, wherever possible. Based in our Hertford store, this is our first UOE 'Tech Hub' counter where customers can bring their devices to be fixed, get advice and buy tech accessories. This is a sole role, meaning the majority of the time you will be the only technician in store although regular contact will be given from our Tech Hub Operations Manager and your retail and Post Office colleagues will be serving on other counters. This role requires both weekday and weekend working.
Key Responsibilities
- Repair smartphones, tablets and laptops, from screens, batteries and back glass to charging ports and other common faults, across Apple, Samsung, Google and other major brands.
- Diagnose faults quickly and explain them in plain English, with a clear price and honest timescale before any work starts.
- Test every repair thoroughly so it leaves working and covered by the 12-month repair warranty.
- Handle trade-ins and device sales. Assess condition, quote fairly, and help customers get value from a device they are replacing.
- Support the business and school device work, keeping records accurate and turnaround tight.
- Greet walk-ins, manage online bookings, and keep customers updated throughout.
- Keep the bench clean, tidy and anti-static, log parts, and help keep stock accurate.
- Handle customer data securely and in line with UK GDPR.

Key Success Measures
You will have:
- Previous retail hands-on experience of repairing phones and tablets for major brands, from a previous job or self-taught. Laptop repair is a plus. A minimum of 1 to 2 years repair experience preferred.
- Confident, careful handling of small components and the patience to get fiddly repairs right first time.
- A positive attitude, good communication, and a genuine interest in customer service.
- Strong numeracy and attention to detail.
- The right to work in the UK for at least 12 months from the start date.
- The ability to lift and carry up to 12kg.
- Able to pass an enhanced DBS check.
