Role Overview
Produce high-quality foam components and packaging to customer specifications using trained machinery and approved processes.
Full training is provided, with opportunities to develop skills and progress within production and operations.
Hours & Reporting
Monday-Thursday: 13:30-22:00 | Friday: 13:30-19:30 | Afternoon-shift bonus applies. (Afternoon Shift)
Monday-Friday: 06:00-14:00 (Morning Shift)
Reports to the Production Manager or Shift Supervisor. Occasional flexibility may be required during busy periods.
Key Responsibilities
Operate production equipment safely after training, including but not limited to band saws, drills, CNC Machines.
Measure, cut, shape, bond, assemble, and pack products accurately to orders, drawings, dimensions, and specifications.
Complete quality checks, report defects, and record production, quality, and material data on company systems.
Meet schedules and customer deadlines while following procedures, safe systems of work, and company policies.
Maintain a clean, organised work area and report hazards, near misses, and equipment defects promptly.
Minimise material damage and waste; support stock control, preparation, packing, and dispatch as required.
Work effectively with colleagues, participate in training and improvements, and support new team members once competent.
Skills & Experience
Essential: reliable and punctual; attention to detail; practical numeracy and English; able to follow instructions and dimensions; effective teamwork; able to work accurately in a fast-paced environment; willing to learn; safety-focused; basic IT capability or willingness to learn.
Desirable: manufacturing, production, assembly, packaging, or warehouse experience; technical drawings/tolerances; machinery or measuring equipment; quality, lean, workplace organisation, or continuous improvement knowledge.
Previous foam-conversion experience is not required.
Training & Development
Structured induction to cover machinery, technical drawings/tolerances, quality inspection, measuring equipment, production IT, manual handling, health and safety, stock/dispatch, workplace organisation, and continuous improvement.
Competence is recorded through a skills matrix. Leadership and coaching development may be available for progression.
Career Progression
Typical pathway: Production Operative > Multi-Skilled Operative > Senior Production Operative > Team Leader > Shift Supervisor > Production/Operations Management.
Alternative routes may include quality, health and safety, maintenance, planning, stock control, logistics, technical production, or continuous improvement.
Progression depends on training, competence, performance, teamwork, development objectives, and suitable vacancies, supported by regular development reviews.
