Job Title: Independent Domestic Violence Adviser

Number of hours: 35 Hours per week

Remuneration: Salary - £ 25,654 p.a. rising to £26,552 upon successful completion of probation period

Accountable to: Adult Survivor Services Operational Lead

Location: Merthyr Tydfil

The suitable candidate will have demonstrable experience and a comprehensive understanding of risk management, safety planning, safeguarding and multi-agency interventions in relation to victims and survivors of domestic abuse.

Due to the nature of this role we will be considering female applicants only in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Requirement (Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9)

Purpose of the post:

To deliver high-quality, trauma-informed, strengths-based, and needs-driven support to all victims of domestic abuse aged 16+, with a focus on support for partners of individuals involved in domestic abuse perpetrator intervention services.
To work within a multi agency framework consisting of the MARAC and local partnership responses to domestic abuse.
Direct support and advocacy for victims accessing criminal and family court systems.

Main Duties:

1. Identify and assess the risks and needs of domestic abuse victims using an evidence based risk identification checklist

2. Provide pro-active support, adopting a trauma informed, strengths based and needs led approach with all victims and survivors

3. Work with all victims of domestic abuse to help them access services to keep them and their children safe

4. Offer support and advocacy to victims accessing criminal and family court systems, providing proactive contact where possible prior to court to increase the presentation of victims and witnesses at the SDVC

5. Advocate for victims with agencies who can help to address the domestic abuse by:

I. Understanding the role of all relevant statutory and non-statutory services available to domestic abuse victims and how your role fits with them

II. Providing high quality telephone or face to face support, advice and advocacy to service users in respect of their rights, housing, legal options, health and finance

III. Working directly with all key agency partners to address the safety of high risk victims and ensuring that their safety plans are coordinated particularly through the MARAC

6. Manage a caseload ensuring each client receives the appropriate support individual to their needs

7. Empower individuals to know and exercise their rights and protect these by holding to account agencies who are responsible for respecting, promoting, and fulfilling these rights

8. Support the empowerment of the client and assist them in recognising the features and dynamics of domestic abuse present in their situation and help them regain control of their lives

9. Understand multi agency partnership structures and work within a multi agency setting which will include participation at the MARAC. You will contribute interventions and help design a plan to protect victims and any children while maintaining an independent role on behalf of your client, keeping their safety as central to any response

10. Participate in carrying out periodic case reviews with line manager based on a review of risk and abuse which:

I. Feeds back into action planning to progress, signpost or close cases

II. Provides feedback to your client/agencies

11. Ensure that case files and records are accurate and complete and that both are kept in compliance with GDPR requirements

12. Maintain effective monitoring and evaluation systems and databases which assess intake, output, performance and effectiveness of the service

13. Comply with data protection legislation, confidentiality and information sharing policies and procedures and all legislation connected to your work

14. Support colleagues and partner agencies through awareness raising, training, evens and institutional advocacy in order to provide the best possible service for victims and survivors of domestic abuse

15. Respect and value the diversity of the community in which the service works and recognise the needs and concerns of a diverse range of survivors ensuring the service is accessible to all

16. Commit to ensuring a non-discriminatory service is delivered, which includes identifying barriers to access for any client group(s).

17. Work in partnership with other agencies to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, to ensure that any cases identified as Child Protection, Care and Support or any other information deemed necessary is shared immediately with line manager and relevant agencies

18. Participate in multi agency conferences in respect of safeguarding children and adults as required, providing reports and undertaking actions as necessary.

19. Remain up to date and compliant with all organisational procedures and policies, professional codes of conduct and uphold standards of best practice

20. Ensure service users are consulted on the effectiveness of the service to inform service development

21. Attendance at relevant meetings e.g. MARAC
