About Apex Specialist Education
Apex Specialist Education is a specialist (SEMH) secondary school and alternative provision. We provide a high level of tailored pastoral and academic support, rooted in a trauma-informed approach, ensuring every young person has the opportunity to flourish.
We have developed an ambitious curriculum that enables pupils to access the National Curriculum and achieve a range of recognised qualifications. Students are supported to re-engage and progress in education at a pace that is appropriate for them through carefully planned, individualised programmes of learning.
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated, creative and passionate Art Teacher to join our team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality Art education across our three centres in Rochdale, Stockport and Altrincham, creating stimulating and supportive learning environments where young people can develop their creativity, confidence and artistic skills.
You will deliver Art across Key Stages 3 and 4, adapting learning to meet the individual needs of pupils with SEND and SEMH needs and supporting students to work towards appropriate recognised qualifications and accreditations.
As the role operates across all three Apex centres, regular travel between Rochdale, Stockport and Altrincham will be an essential part of the position.
Duties
As an Art Teacher at Apex Specialist Education, you'll play one of the most vital roles in the development of our young people. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing an outstanding learning journey for our young people, adapting your teaching to meet each student's individual needs.
- Planning and delivering engaging, creative and high-quality Art lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Delivering Art across our Rochdale, Stockport and Altrincham centres as part of our wider curriculum offer.
- Supporting students to develop skills across a range of artistic techniques, materials and creative processes.
- Preparing students for appropriate recognised Art qualifications and accreditations, including supporting the development of portfolios and practical work.
- Monitoring, assessing and recording student progress and adapting teaching strategies where necessary.
- Creating and maintaining calm, safe and purposeful learning environments where all students can succeed.
- Encouraging creativity and self-expression while building students' confidence, resilience and independence.
- Supporting the emotional wellbeing of students and embracing our commitment to educating the whole child.
- Building positive and trusting relationships with students through a consistent, trauma-informed approach.
- Working collaboratively with teaching, SEND and pastoral colleagues across all three centres.
- Becoming fully familiar with Apex Specialist Education's ethos, philosophy and policies and ensuring they are reflected in your daily practice.
- Maintaining confidentiality at all times as a matter of professional practice.
- Upholding safeguarding responsibilities and ensuring the welfare of all pupils remains paramount.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Art, Art & Design, Fine Art or another relevant subject.
- Experience teaching or delivering Art to secondary-aged young people.
- Strong subject knowledge and practical artistic skills.
- Ability to adapt teaching for pupils with different abilities and additional needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with young people.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to working across multiple education settings.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly between our Rochdale, Stockport and Altrincham centres.
- Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to obtain one.
Desirable
- QTS or another recognised teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching Art at Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Experience delivering recognised Art qualifications.
- Experience working within SEND, SEMH, Alternative Provision or specialist education.
- Experience supporting pupils with portfolio development and practical assessment.
