The Opportunity
PointSCAN Limited is looking for a practical, technically minded individual to join our team as a Assistant 3D Laser Scanning & Survey Technician.
This is initially a part-time trainee position, with the potential to develop into a full-time permanent role as experience, competence and responsibility increase.
Previous 3D laser scanning or surveying experience is not required. Full training will be provided to the right candidate.
The position would suit someone interested in technology, engineering, surveying, construction or CAD who wants to develop practical skills and build a career within the specialist field of 3D laser scanning, surveying and reality capture.

The Role
You will initially work alongside experienced members of the PointSCAN team, assisting with the preparation and completion of 3D laser scanning and surveying projects.
You will receive practical training in our equipment, software, surveying procedures, health and safety requirements and quality systems.
Your responsibilities will progressively include:
- Assisting with 3D laser scanning surveys
- Setting up and operating professional laser scanning equipment
- Positioning survey targets and reference equipment
- Assisting with site measurements and survey control
- Checking survey areas to ensure complete and accurate data capture
- Maintaining site and survey records
- Preparing, checking and maintaining surveying equipment
- Downloading, transferring and organising survey data
- Assisting with point cloud processing and registration
- Learning specialist point cloud and surveying software
- Assisting with quality checking survey data
- Following PointSCAN's surveying and quality procedures
- Working in accordance with site-specific health and safety requirements
As your experience and competence develop, you will progressively take greater responsibility for survey acquisition, processing and project delivery.
Training & Development
No previous laser scanning experience is required.
Training will be provided in areas including:
- 3D laser scanning principles
- Operation of professional laser scanning equipment
- Survey planning and site procedures
- Survey targets and registration techniques
- Survey control
- Point cloud processing
- Point cloud registration
- Data quality checking
- FARO SCENE
- Autodesk ReCap
- Introduction to CAD and BIM workflows
- Survey documentation
- Quality procedures
- Site health and safety
Additional industry training and qualifications may also be provided as the role develops.
Our objective is to progressively develop the successful candidate from a trainee into a competent 3D Laser Scanning & Survey Technician capable of taking increasing responsibility for site surveys and data processing.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold a full UK driving licence
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Be able to reliably travel to our offices in Sandy, Bedfordshire
- Be prepared to travel to project sites throughout the UK
- Be prepared for early starts and occasional overnight stays
- Be technically minded and willing to learn
- Be confident using computers and technology
- Be practical and comfortable handling technical equipment
- Have strong attention to detail
- Be reliable, punctual and professional
- Be able to follow technical, quality and safety procedures accurately
- Be comfortable working in construction, engineering and industrial environments
- Be capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a small team

Driving & Travel
A full UK driving licence is essential.
PointSCAN undertakes projects throughout the UK, and the successful candidate will be required to travel from our Sandy office to different project locations.
Company vehicles will be used for project travel where appropriate.
The role may involve early starts, extended travel and occasional overnight stays depending upon project location and requirements.
Applicants who do not currently hold a full UK driving licence or cannot get to the office for an early start cannot be considered for this position.
Security & Client Site Access
PointSCAN works across a variety of client sites, including infrastructure, industrial, construction and security-controlled environments.
Appointment will therefore be subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks and the successful candidate being able to meet any security, vetting and site-access requirements applicable to the projects on which they are required to work.
Continued employment may require the employee to maintain the qualifications, security clearances and site-access requirements reasonably necessary for their role.
